Hey Artemio,

Since I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, I want to confirm the following.

I have purchased and installed the Audio Track 2.0 expansion kit. Therefore, I do not want to do this 1.05 update, right? I should only look for 2.01 updates or greater, correct?

Thanks,

Bri

Yes, of course. Those who have 2.0 updates do not need to update with a 1.x series OS. I am wondering how Roland will be shipping updates to the 2.0 owners - I think 2.0 will still have some or all of the bugs that were fixed in 1.05.

Right. I guess I was concerned because I was expecting to see a 2.01 update announcement along with the 1.05.

Hopefully a 2.01 update will be coming soon to mirror what ever was fixed with the 1.05. Or maybe they already fixed what was needed for the 2.00 release and then went back to create the 1.05 update.

Anyway, thanks for your quick response as usual.

this situation is becoming weird
quite strange
well you know who bought fantom x near
the beginning of 2005 has it for free
the rest have to pay
but some say no..if i'm not wrongin..
so for example i will pay ..then what will happen?
i'm going to see the 2.01 for free in some roland mirror..
or will i have to pay also the 2.01? and the following?

or for an another case...who have now for free the 2.0
have to pay for the 2.01---2.02---

or will it become free for all...
if so..who will give back the money to the ones who
have bought it?

bye

bisibuuu,
I thought that I would clear up potential confusion that may be caused by some of your statements, and maybe avoid yet more posts about what MAY happen. . . .

In the IT world, paying for an UPGRADE is not unusual. Upgrades are usually designated by a full digit increment, i.e. version 1.00 to 2.00 to 3.00, etc.

When you see a bump that is designated by a decimal increment (such as 1.00 to 1.01 to 1.02), it indicates a bug fix, not adding new features, and is usually called an UPDATE.

So if you have the Fantom 2.0 UPGRADE, which added features, and an UPDATE (notice: not UPGRADE) is released which is called 2.01, it will be applying fixes to version 2.0 and would be available for download for free.

Of course, exceptions apply to every rule, but I would be very surprised if Roland didn't follow the above protocol. Artemio may be correct in stating that 2.0 may or may not have the 'bug fixes' found in 1.05, so 2.01 may not be very long in coming.

Just wanted to add a short note and a bit of clarity to the ongoing debate of "Free vs. Fee".

I realy think.. OS 2.0 is nothing more than an add in.
everyone says that it does not fix any bugs, so its not an update, its an add in.
its roland propaganda promoting it as os2

i think 1.x will keep fixing bugs while, OS2 is the add on and i assume once you do the 1.x upgrade you may have to also reisntall the add in??

Any one tryed? (i dont have it yet, but on order)

Does the 2.0 version include fixes contained in 1.01-1.04?

The following bugs have not been fixed in 1.05:

1) When using RPS pattern with track out assign set to off, midi data is send to both internal and midi outs. This causes doubled notes and makes the RPS function absolutely useless

Setup: Midi interface + Fantom-X midi local off

2) Sequencer/rhythm sync issue: rhythm patterns triggered from the pads are running out of sync when using the seqencer in loop mode

Amazingly, i have the same problem with an old mc500, loop mode doesn't stay in synch to a midi clock.

And about #1, does this mean you can control external gear with the RPS patterns ?

Yes, you can control external gear with the RPS function:
- Create patterns in a seq. song
- Assign the pattern to your pads
- Trigger the patterns from the pads

I'm using a Miditemp patchbay, from there I re-route Fantom-X midi channels to different synth modules. Using it this way, you can make real complex multi-synth RPS patterns.

This all works, but like I said, the bug causes double notes since the pattern will allways be sent to both the internal Fantom-X engine and midi out.
