The Fantom as a live instrument.

Getting closer to having the cash to purchase a Fantom X6, maybe a month or two, so naturally i have many burning questions, and perhaps a bit of cold feet on whether it will truly meet my needs.
The main area i am a little uncertain about is whether or not it will meet my needs during live performance.
I am curious to hear others opinions and experiences regarding using the Fantom live. For example, do you think it fares well as a stand-alone keyboard or would you advise having a second to share the workload. Particularly if you are triggering samples and sequences regularly from the Fantom, would it be advisable to have a second keyboard for solo or lead playing, or can the Fantom be relied upon to handle all tasks. I own an XV-2020 and a Roland EM-25 keyboard and have been considering selling the EM-25 to put the funds towards the Fantom. But i don't want to sell it and regret it later on, because it is still needed for live purposes. I am into music with a dense keyboard based sound, should i hold onto it or is the Fantom powerful enough to do it on it's own.

Get the Fantom, keep the EM25 until you are sure the Fantom will do what you want in lieu of the EM25, then peddle the EM25, if the Fantom will attain your expectations. JMIO

the fantom is great as an all in one machine triggering samples and sequences are as easy as pie and make you sound great. with matrix control you can easily modify quite a bit of the parameters of patches, effects, and other options includint lfos and stuff.

I do find that having a second synth namely the V-synth expands the performance capabilitys significantly you gain a great deal of finesse and ease of operation with the added control surface

for a live performance, is it possible to trigger different RPSs in realtime (one for the intro, one for the verse, one for the chorus, the bridge, the interlude, etc.)?

how do you set them up?

I don't know if this is the best way to do such a thing, but here is how I get away with it on stage;-)

- Record your intro, verse, chorus etc. into separate patterns.
- Make sure your song is empty (except for the patters you just recorded of course).
- Using microscope edit on a track, create a control change event that doesn't do anything audible (like a pitch bend event with value 0).
- Set song loop on.
- Set up RPS to trigger your patterns by measure.


Now when you press play, there's nothing but a warm, calming silence...
Whenever you're done enjoying these tender quality moments of peace & quiet, simply press the pad you assigned the "intro" to. It will start playing as soon as the one measure silent song reaches its loop end point. Now you can "punch in" any onther part of your song by hitting the corresponding pad and maybe do a little live playing while you're at it.

The fantom doesn't do the trick for me all by itself (i have a 76). It might do the job if I set it up differently, but as it is I need to bring another board to gigs, sometimes two.
If I'm using the fantom for craziness, I still need something to play regular notes and chords and all that traditional music stuff. Maybe if I were to play in performance mode, instead of patch mode, I could get more from it. But I play in about 6 different bands, and coming up with performance settings for every song is pretty much out of the question.

Still, paired with my yamaha p-80, it pretty much kicks ass. Put a little microkorg on top (vocoder!) and let the good times roll.
