How to get the sample to play with just one tap on the pads
Hi, I have my m samples loaded assigned to the pads but when I hit the pad to play the sample I have to hold the pad for he sample to play thoroughly through is there a way where I can just tap th pad instead of hold it down for the sample to play all the way through? Thanks in advance and peace guys

Hi V.C.
How much of a delay are you talking about? milliseconds, hundreds of milliseconds, seconds? My samples start immediately after I hit the pad (and the hold has previously been turned on). Here are some additional thoughts
1) make sure you have chopped ALL of the dead time off of the front of the sample using the sample edit screen.
2) I believe the X has several options as to when to actually start playing a sample, for example, start playing immediately, start playing at the start of the next beat, or start playing at the start of the next measure.
Bottom-line, if you are happy with how drum sounds start when you hit the pads, your samples should start with the same lack of time delay.

Still Learning:
I don't think he's referring to the time it takes from the moment you hit the pad to when the sound is generated, but once you hit the pad, how to make the sample keep playing once you release the pad. Am I right, Vintage Chyld?
I've done this before, but I don't remember how...
and I am nowhere near my Fantom, otherwise I'd go and see.
You gotta mess with the Amplitude Envelope (or whatever it's called in Fantom language) so that the wave sustains once you release the pad or key. Choose a percussion sound that sustains (a cymball, for example) and analyze how the sound is programmed. That is how I figured it out, and I bet you'll be able to figure it out too.
Good luck!

Re: How to get the sample to play with just one tap on the p
If you have the hold button preset, your samples will play out with a tap
Re: How to get the sample to play with just one tap on the p
im not sure what your trying to do, but heres my 10 cents
1) make sure HOLD is on before you hit the pad
your sample should keep playing even when you release the pad.
2)if you have hit the pad and you know releasing it will stop the sample from playing, you should immediatly hit the HOLD button and the sample will still play if the pad is released
3) if you want on pad to cancel another so having hold on does not create multible samples playing then make sure you set the mute group for each of the pads.

Re: How to get the sample to play with just one tap on the p
Hi QuinnX, nope thats not what I mean , I dont know why this is much harder to explain but Im trying to hit the sample and it plays all the way through and while its playing through hit it again kinda like the chopping effect hip hop guru Premo does. Ummm sorta like this * hits pad *sample plays through with just a tap without holding down the pad ----- *hits pad again* ----- sample plays through with just a tap not holding down the pad ( the hold pad is not used because you have to tap the pad about 3 times to make it do what I just did above .
I would like to thank all you guys for your help , I hope this helps clarify what Im trying to do .
( this ------ represents the sample playing )

Why wouldn't Quinn's number 3 suggestion work for what you are trying to accomplish?

Okay i tryed my own suggestion, it didnt work in the way i though it
would... :p (it was all theory anyway...)
so here is my working solution..
after assigning your sample to a pad
create a patern (say patern1 )and use miroedit to insert the 1st note as your sample on the pad (dont for get to set the duration)
go in to the RPS editor and hit the pad you want to assign for this effect..
make sure playback mode is set to ONCE and mute group is 1
now exit editor and turn on RPS and hey Presto!! ppppppresto
and you will not have to use the hold button..
