Fantom XR memory limit

Does anyone know the RAM memory limit of Fantom XR?
I mean in real life. Brochure said 528MB. What would happen if I install 1Gb memory module in it? I know it is expensive. But has anyone tried it yet?

If the brochure says 528MB then the XR comes with 16MB and you can add 512MB. The unit may accept a 1Gig stick without burping, but in my experience(24 years with Big Blue), the OS will not utilize the additional memory during practical use of the machine. Code probably won't map it. . .

512MB is probably sufficient for most users. You may want to save your money and go with the 512MB.

I know that the motif es does up to a gb of ram when it only is reported to be 512. It would be interesting to find out:)

528M is the capacity of memory, and 1G is the capacity of outer PC card

Yes, but we have come to find out that the Fantom X and XR can address more than 1 Gb with it's pc card slot.

Just like the Motif ES can access more than 512 of ram(1 GB)

If you're willing to spend the money to find out if it supports 1 GB of RAM in 1 stick, I'd be very interested to know what the results are.

I see in the Fantom XR Owners's Manual that the pc card slot needs an adaptor. Can someone please tell me where one could purchase this adaptor? I have gone to computer stores and they did not know what I was getting at and I could not get help from one Sam Ash Music store.

Ron,
I bought my adaptor at CompUsa. Try them. The adaptor is for a PCMCIA slot, the type found on laptops. You can put your compact flash, etc., in this adaptor and it slides right into the slot on the Fantom. Works great. I have a 1gig compact flash on my unit.
