Hello,
The screen of my Roland Fantom X6 is not working. When I power it up, I don't see any images, light, or display at all - it look as if the machine is still turned off. After a few seconds, however, the pads start to blink and the machine is ready to use - still no display. I can play sounds , recall performances (from my memory), and perform all other functions as long as I remember the sequence. All that happens when there is absolutely nothing displayed on the screen. It was working fine at home and start acting weird when I powered it up right before a stage performance.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Roland Fantom X6 Display LCD Not Working
Re: Roland Fantom X6 Display LCD Not Working
Welcome to the Clan, musiclover. Could be that the internal cable came loose. There have been reports of that happening.

Re: Roland Fantom X6 Display LCD Not Working
Thank you so much for the information. I opened the back cover and found a white cable that was loose. I secured it well and the problem disappeared.
I am having a new problem now!
When I power up the machine, the display screen shows a dim light but no images. It appears that the software is not loading and the machine is not booting becauase I do not see the pads lighting up at all. There is no sound at all. It's not usable right now!
New discovery: When I switched on the keyboard while holding the Enter button, the display shows the following message:
Fatal error. ROM program load error.
Any help will be appreciated...
Thanks.

The only thing to try is a "factory reset" procedure. If this doesn't work, then it has to go to a repair shop.

Re: Roland Fantom X6 Display LCD funktioniert nicht
I too was having problems with dim display.. Been having them, is how i got this thing - previous owner gave it to me because "screen doesn't come on". Firstly I removed the small PCB from back of LCD which just passed thru CCFL power. I cut off the connectors and soldered the rubbery high-voltage cable directly from the long extention to the shorter ones comming from LCD and covered the connections with heat/shrink tubing..
This worked great until i let it sit for ~ 5 months. The display was again barely visable. This time I wiggled the CCFL supply wires while it was on and the LCD went white (but still dim), rebooting i got the dredded "Fatal error. ROM program load error.".. I seriously cried, I loved this thing and thought all was lost, but then i remembered imma embedded systems engineer by trade and can fix ~anything~..
I had the USB connected and noticed the 'FANX USER' drive showing up whenever it came on.. (while display the "Fatal error. ROM program load error." message)..
HOW TO FIX 'Fatal error. ROM program load error:'
I downloaded the latest firmware update 'FantomX678v107.zip' from the roland fantom support page.. Open the .zip and extract the 'fanx.img' file found in the ROLAND directory.
Turn on the poor sick fantom with the USB connected and you should see the FANX_USER drive appear, mount it and copy just the 'fanx.img' file onto the USB drive. Properly unmount the USB drive and then (as should be indicated to do on the screen by now) Power cycle the fantom.... and YAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! The Fantom is back babies!~ (hopefully... was for me...)
NOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM THAT PROBABLY CAUSED THIS IN FIRST PLACE:
Examining the rubbery cable carrying the high-voltage power required by the CCFL inside the LCD noticed quite a bit of little tears and rips. I suspect what happened was the rubber insulation somehow gets weakened and allows leakage of the high-voltage which only needs to find a via on the main PCB or touch most anything inside the fantom to cause problems....
So, I removed each wire from connector and slid it thru some thick plastic oxygen hose - the hose covering all but the last 3/4" or so of original rubbery cable - each cable has it's own hose - DO NOT PUT BOTH THRU ONE HOSE! Reinserted the pins back into the connector and OMFG!~ I've NEVER SEEN IT THIS BRIGHT!!! It works great and i suspect will last at least the lifetime of the CCFL lamp itself - at which time u'd need to get a new LCD panel or convert old one to LEDs...
Sry it's a bit wordy, I'm very tired - been up day and half trying to restore my samples, sequences, and sounds - which is proving difficult and in some cases where i musta accidentally stored onto user instead of card impossible, but jaja... I Hope this helps someone! I've read on other posts of people sending the unit back and roland service claiming 'parts are unavailable', pfft... ganbatte!~~ \(u_u')~zZzZZzZZ~ Goodnights!~~~zzZz

WOW that was a great explanation.
I would love to hear from musiclover if he/she tried this and if it worked for them.

Re: Roland Fantom X6 Display LCD Not Working
Hi Everyone
I have a fantom x7 and the backlit of the screen has gone, but the screen was working perfectly. I took it to a repair shop in Ireland. They kept there for 3 weeks, than he repair man said he cannot fix. Need to change the whole screen and Roland doesn't supply anymore. Charge me 45€ and give back. When I got home, switched on the screen was dead. As long as I see everything else seems to be work..I saw there is replacement screens on ebay and other places.. I am recently in fight with this shop but they trying to ignoring me.. I am very upset.
Any experience about the replacement screens. Worth it to order for nearly 200€?
