What "PC card" can i use with the pc card slot on the fantom

Post by Young JD »

Ok...i see in the manual that is says it accepts pc cards and other types of media such as compact flash and smart media via the appropriate pc card adaptor. Being i don't know much about pc cards...what i get from what the manual says is that compact flash cards and smart media will only work if i get some added adaptor. But what i wanna know is what card can i get to where i can just throw it right in the fantom x's pc card slot WITHOUT an added adapter. Sorry i've never dealt with pc cards at all until getting a fantom x..so excuse me if this is a stupid question.

The only "card" I can think of that will work without an adapter (i.e. without using a Smart Media or Compact Flash card) is a "Micro Drive". This is an actual hard drive that fits into the PC card slot. I've not tried one myself, but I understand they work fine.

Just search for "microdrive" on the internet.

Young JD... just get a compact flash card and a PC Card adaptor. This will be much cheaper solution then getting a PC Card itself.

The adaptor will make the Compact Flash card fit in the slot on back of Fantom-X. The adaptor is of the same size as a PC Card, so there is no 'extra' luguage to carry. I know when you read adaptor, it seems it's something extra sticking out with wires and cables, but that's not the case.

Remember that there are only 3 MFX + 1 Reverb + 1 Chorus in Fantom-S/X and you have to share them across 16 parts (patches) in a song.

Micro Drives are physically the same format as Compact Flash, so you need the adapter. Adapters are about 10 bucks nowadays

Kingston makes a PC card hard drive which doesn't require an adapter. It may be faster than the compact flash adapter, but no one knows yet. I don't have any extra money right now.

I wonder if that Kingston hard drive will allow full capacity?? I thought I saw where it went up to 5GB. Thats a lot of space if its all usable.

Anyone know??
