Roland XV & JV Power User Tips - Excellent reference for Fan

Post by Lawrencew »

FYI, the first part of the absolutely excellent Sound-on-Sound magazine masterclass - "Roland XV & JV Power User Tips" -has now been put in the free zone on the SoS website

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov03/a ... 465f8e3bc8

This is a 4 part highly detailed masterclass on all aspects of the XV sound engine - and hence is highly relevant to the Fanton-S and X. There are excellent sections to come on patch and performance programming for example.

If you can't wait another 3 months for the other parts to unfold, you could always subscribe :-)

Hi Lawrence. Long time no see, nice to see you again.
I had forgotten all about this. Someone, I think gtds, mentioned this before. I appreciate you making this post to remind me/us. I will check these out for sure.

Thanks for the link Lawrence. I'm an SOS e-subscriber. They offered it to me this year for $24 US - a fabulous deal, especially since those guys at Keyboard raised their per issue price to $6 US off the newstand.

Just a quick plug for the SOS e-sub. It's really a great value IMO.

So I quickly glanced over part two tonight. It did not seem to have much usful information for the Fantom but I could be very wrong about this with my quick glance. I did follow the www.synthzone.com/roland.htm link which I have not been to in quite some time and thought it was great that they are so on top of things that they had the following listed:

· Fantomized.info
A great Fantom user site with tips, related files, live chat and discussion.
· Fantom-S - Artemio's Website
Provides patches and sysex files for the Fantom-S.
· Fantom Fan
Fantom-S & Fantom-X info, tutorials and resources.

I can't believe it...

Post by DoItAgain »

...I worked hard through the years on most of these XV5080 topics described in the articles.
Why didn't someone tell me earlier that these wonderful pieces of paper exist ?
It's absolutely great (as great as the XV5080 is).

Is there a possibility to get more of masterclass articles (e.g. about Fantom S/X/XR, Midi-Setup, Mastering, ...).
I would be very interested.

Don’t feel bad. These articles are pretty new. If you subscribe to SOS you could have had them 6 months or so ago when they first came out but if you aren't a subscriber you have to wait this 6 or so months to have these articles for free.
Sorry but I don’t know of any other articles like this for the XV-5080. I can see why you would want more. I appears to me that the XV-5080 was a beast but that it was rather hard to completely grasp. It really makes me appreciate the changes that Roland made in the Fantom-S/X to simplify things.
