More Arpreggios needed

Post by kelvin marsh »

I recently bought the Roland Fantom X6 and found that it only has a few...128 preset arps to choose from...I had upgraded from the Roland Xp-30 but it seemed the arps on that was a little bit more interesting...guitar strumming, string comp, techo arps, ect... Well, is there a site where you can download different arps for my Fantom? Thanks in advance.

kelvin, the Motif XS has approximately 6000 arepeggios where the Fantom X only has only 128 arps to choose from. Within each arp you have motifs (interesting choice of name) but that doesn't come close to the numbers you have on the Motif. Fantoms are stronger in other areas which may be why you bought it in the first place.

You could consider adding the Motif ES Rack to add more sounds and arps or you could try and get the midi of those arps from someone who has a Motif and then edit them in the Fantom. Here is a link where people here talked about doing this.

Arppeggio numbers and motif

Post by PauloF »

Hi everyone,
In what respect Arps, Yamaha is superior, I give you that, but let's make a little justice to the Fantoms...

- The Yamaha Motif Xs has aprox 6000 arps to choose from... And they can use 4 of them at the same time. Like simulating Bass and Drums... Very Good !!

- The Fantoms have (128 x 12 Presets = 1536) + (128 x 12 User = 1536) = 3072 Arppeggios to choose from, not only 128 like is being said here !!! besides that you can do A LOT with the sequencer and RPS, so it became almost as good as the XS.

On the motif name, the **arp motif** term was created a long time before Yamaha used that name for their range of products... The "interesting choice of name" was done by Yamaha, not by Roland.

Take Care

Da-man,

Not 12 presets... 12 different motifs on each preset !!!
12 motifs x 128 arp presets = 1536 different preset arps

PLUS

12 motifs x 128 user arps = 1536 different User arps

= 3072 total Arp motifs to choose from !!!

Yamaha XS Arps also have a lot of paramenters to change, like the motif on Fantom, so 6000 x n = almost ilimited Arps.

additinally, XS also has 256 locations for user ARPs, that you can create / import from sequencer tracks.

Cesarsound,
As I said, XS's are far superior to the Fantoms regarding arps... But the 6000 XS arps were being compared to 128 on the Fantoms, and that was not a fair comparison...

I have an ES 6 and an X6, and I say the ES kills the X hands down. Coupled with the remix feature/function, the possibilities for different arps are endless. However, what I like about the roland arps is the ability to actually see how the notes are layed out because you don't get a graphical representation on the ES.

PauloF, I said there are 6000 arp presets on the XS whereas we have 128 on the Fantom. I also said there were motifs in addition to the presets on the Fantom. As Cesarsound pointed out, you can edit parameters on the Motif so 6000 is just the base number of arps on the Motif just as 128 is the Fantom's base number of arps. I didn't think I was being unfair and still don't think so. Let's not argue specs here though as the original poster didn't ask for a discussion on which synth had better arps. He wanted to know where he could get more presets since those on the Fantom don't appear to be enough for him. I gave a suggestion of how he could get some arps from the Motif onto the Fantom.
