The Next Fantom (Roland) Workstation?
The Next Fantom (Roland) Workstation?
Whats up everyone.
I just want to say that i have had the chance to play all the new workstation that came out. The Korg M3,Motif XS. Iam already familiar with the Fantom X. Personally i would like them to bring out the same guys who voice the Xv5080
Fantom 76 key, Add a Little studio Electronics leads and basses Current drum kits for every style of music.
Make the sounds fatter or the ability to sound fatter with different filters. Not so much compression. Listen to whats on the radio. Beyonce, Young Jezy,Fergie, black evyed peas.
These are hit making sounds. One thing i heard in the Motif Xs
was there Drum sounds. They are Current and Radio ready.
Those Old JV1080,XV5080 module made roland alot of money.
Bring that sound back but only current.

Re: The Next Fantom (Roland) Workstation?
All i can say to that is the following..
Music is not about matching other people sounds, its about creating your own style
dont try to be or copy others or you wont stand out
you will simply be another one of them and not your own.
The fantom can give you what you need but you first must master your art and your instrument.
Your currently looking for the quick fix, the band in the box.
thats not what the fantom is.
Its more than this and even after several years with it, its still got too much potential that i have only scratched the surface.
Its bigger than you think, give your self at least a year and then come back to this thread, you will see a different opinion.

Re: The Next Fantom (Roland) Workstation?
At some point when is enough, enough? Technology is always getting better so sounds, specs, options, features ect are always going to get better. Things are pretty damn good right now. I am happy with the Fantom X and all the gear I have at this point. I could spend the rest of my life trying to truly master the Fantom X and the other equipment I've got. I've decided that for me its time to really, truly learn the equipment I've got and not worry if I've got the latest and greatest offerings.
BTW Quinnx your absolutely right when you said "but you first must master your art and your instrument"

Re: The Next Fantom (Roland) Workstation?
Quinxx! I have to say that I agree with you whole heartedly! When I first noticed you, I thought you were just a trouble maker who for some reason bought an instrument he was not satisfied with. When it comes down to it though, I believe we are on the same page. We all want Rolland to get rid of the bugs from the OS and design a better filing system. AND WE DESERVE THAT AS CUSTOMERS. But I really think that once you learn this machine, if you can't get the sound you want, you have not learned this machine. To me, you can tweak your way into any sound just with the presets! To me, you could use the presets for years, and as long as you take your time you will always be able to come up with an original sound that fits what you are looking for... At the same time, this beauty is a sampler! So if you can't get the sound you want than it must not exist!

Silver Dragon Sound, I also agree with what you are saying. I believe that we are finally to the point with workstations that we have enough memory and quality of sampling and sound minipulation that you could make an amazing album with these limitations even twenty years from now! It's nice to finally be at the point where we have instruments that we can acomplish what we truely want, a lot of times without even scratching the surface of what this thing can really do. It's like owning a 50's Telecaster, with a sequencer...

Telecaster and a sequencer ? *giggles*
But perhaps everyone's right. Im contempted with even the lightweighted Xa, as its still afterall powerful (at least to me). Like wudsiba said, perhaps continual update on our keys would be better that investing time on learning another workstation.
Current sounds would be yesterday's sound tomorrow, wouldn't it ? what defines current sound anyway ? To me, the juno106 pads is still current to me.

Re: The Next Fantom (Roland) Workstation?
If you learn to layer the sounds on the routing screen it will give you those nice fat sounds. Import some drum sounds from a disk and learn to edit that 808 kick drum. that alone will give you more possibilities than you would have dreamed. Just take time and learn it.
Re: The Next Fantom (Roland) Workstation?
Rom is getting cheaper, so hardware synths should supply more, thus more sounds.
I love my Fantom, but lets face it;
Software is starting to offer a shitload of goodies for your money. If you want to compete, you have to offer more also.

Re: The Next Fantom (Roland) Workstation?
If you want to use a computer..
I don’t.
Its noisy for one
and you have latency issues the more voices and plugins you use.
I have moved all computers base units OUT of my workspace
QUIET at last..
Last thing i do is use a computer to do music and only if its absolutely necessary
99% is done with the fantom alone

Re: The Next Fantom (Roland) Workstation?
master your art .
That my freind i have done, iam just telling it like it is. I don't belive in the band in the box feature. i had a XP50 for 3yrs, fully expanded. I go in the studio with it and thay couldn't tell if i was useing a MPC for drums or not. Believe me, i know how to make a synth "KNOCK" If you go on Ebay, all you see is Fantom X6,7,8 for sell, why is that. its the sounds. It's like Jimmy Jam of flyte tyme productions said, who produced janet jackson. If don't sound good comming out the box,he dosn't mess with it,couse he dosn't have time to be programming sounds. I love programming,i don't like all the sounds in the fantomX. Love the Technology about it, When you play that Motif Xs, It Knocks"

don't like all the sounds in the fantomX
neither do i
apart from the real insturuments
which are perfect.
Synth sounds (presets) are cr*P!
but you can make your own
same with drum sounds you can also create or tweak your own even though they are quite sufficient to begin with.
I have got myslef a korg micro and did something with it
but it sounded to proccessed not much room to do any thing with it.
then i listened to the fantom and notice the differnce.

Look,Diametro don't hate, I went on ebay looking for a fantom 76, i like the sounds in it, but in my search i kept seeing fantom X and the and the same answer i gave before is "Why" I been hard for money before, but that just can't be the only reason, I thought Fantom X was going to have better sounds in it than the SRX Cards that they keep selling. When are they going to learn like the other guys. There Synth are comming out of the box not needing any expansion at all and they are putting fresh, radio ready sounds in them. Oh they leave it up to you to tweak them, but realy, when you sit down and play a synth, you can tell if if you really going to have to do alot of tweaking are not. When i bought the Motif Classic, i knew right then Yamaha had a winner on ther hands.
and all i tweaked was the high hats and kicks . All iam saying is Roland get those guys who voice that XV5080, if iam not mistaken, it was those guys at Spectrasonic that did the D50.
And we all know that was a hit! Roland knows that sound iam talking about. as a matter of fact there a guy talknig about the JV1080 on the Fantom X video on there site. He said he love every sound comming out of that box. Iam asking roland when bring out the next Workstation make sure all the sounds are useable. Iam talking alot on this thread ,but i love roland gear. When bought my XP50, i knew right then as well as others that it would make alot of hits because of the sounds in it. Nylon Rhodes, Every R&B person had to use that sound because it's a signiture sound. IAm Out!

Re: The Next Fantom (Roland) Workstation?
I don't think Roland will continue to upgrade Fantom. Now I think it will have some new name or number. Like Korg stopped Tritons.
The best new roland (as for me) must have
-assignable SW near the joystick
-modern RAM modules
-dual arpeggiator
-fully rewritable memory (for 1 click patch access)
-SRX for all JV sounds
-more ethnic voices
-better choir (e80 is quite well)
-touch screen
-variphrase
-3-4 insert effects
-and some new stuff which I can't imagine for now
more good sounds (not just a superhipermulti sampled piano) (for just piano better to have a digital pano for 1/3 price).
