SRX card sound different on fantoms and G
SRX card sound different on fantoms and G
I have listened to an SRX-07 card on a Fantom S and Juno G. Maybe it is me but the patches sound a bit different on each keyboard. It sounded better on the fantom S compared to Juno G.
Have you experienced anything like this using the same SRX card on Fantom X, Fantom S and Juno G? Shouldn't the sounds be identical for the same SRX card when played on different keyboards?
thx..

did you compare side-by-side or from memory?

From memory but within 5 minutes each. And I am very sensitive about the sound.
Re: SRX card sound different on fantoms and G
Doesn't the Fantom have a higher quality set of output jacks? Also couldn't the DA converters be a reason for lesser quality? Just a shot in the dark here.
Re: SRX card sound different on fantoms and G
the two trials were on the same speakers/mixer/headphones etc?
Re: SRX card sound different on fantoms and G
Maybe the Juno-G's DAC and pre-amp are cheaper too!

Yes they were on the same speakers..
Re: SRX card sound different on fantoms and G
did you have exactly same settings for effects and mastering?
--------------------
Remember that there are only 3 MFX + 1 Reverb + 1 Chorus in Fantom-S/X and you have to share them across 16 parts (patches) in a song.

F vs G Fidelity
(IMHO) Its hard for me to accept fidelity, clarity, punchiness, and/or general effects would be significantly different, seeing both machines' sound-generators are merely pre-amps.
Quality pre-Amps, sound-cards, etc. ... are not that expensive.
Perhaps Fantom 'audio waves' are generated significantly better (based on Forum postings about using mics in Fantoms vs. my lack-luster results with Juno-G).
SRX patches are complicated patches that are probably tested within Fantoms anyway (not Junos?) and may require different settings for the different sound generators.
Shakil mentioned effect settings: Did you check if the Master Switch was on/off in 'Effects'? 'Boosting' can fool the ear (memory) into thinking 'better'.
Likewise, EQ parameters may be slightly different, and/or compression parameters ... even from fantom to fantom.
Juno pre-amp volume output may be slightly less punchy at certain outputs and/or levels, too.
FYI: SRX-'Analogue Essentials' sounds no better (to me) than my other patches. I just ordered SRX-6 ('Complete Orchestra' at $250 US) because I verily hope (and pray) SRX-6 sounds better on Juno-G.
I'll try to let you know if SRX-6 Rocks on Juno-G when I test it next week.

Re: SRX card sound different on fantoms and G
Please test the following:
1) Rip a sample of your favorite CD for testing purposes (not pirating!), and load the WAV file on the Fantom-S and in the Juno-G.
2) Compare the output from a CD player and both keyboards.
In this test, if you hear differences in the reproduction, you can assure if the DAC/pre-amps are to blame. If not, than the SRX processing is actually different.
Good luck! And post back the results for us (I'm curious).

Re: SRX card sound different on fantoms and G
OK I finally figured it out after reading the settings feedback from Shakil and Philip.. they were not same..
I tired it after making the settings similar, And the card sounds more or less the same on both keyboards now..
Thanks for the input guys..

Thank you (exceedingly) Tolgay for posting back your second results as I have a lot of hope invested in my G and have greatly relied on thoughts such as yours.
