WHAT PC CARD TO BUY? ARTEMIO,JC??

Post by T14 »

Hi, I am new in this and you will notice if you read the forum since I posted some questions. I thought now that a PC CARD was necesary because if not I have to replace the sound that come with the Fantom X.

The question is: What PC Card should I buy?
CD, SD, Adapters and all that. Could someone explain me a bit on this.

Perhaps also telling me what cards you have.

Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
T14.

The best way is to buy a Compact Flash card and a PC card to Compact Flash adaptor.

If you don't have version 2.00 if you get the Audio Track Expansion Kit, it comes with a PC Card to Compact Flash reader

Hi, thank you for your answers.
I wonder if I understood well what I've read in this forum.
1)Should I buy a Type II adaptor?

2)Moreover, "PC card to Compact Flash adaptor" you talked about this Artemio. Is this the same as a PCMCIA?

3) Now talking about brands. Te compact flash should be Kingston, I know this memories are good indeed when talking about this kind of stuff RAM in the Computer or Pendrives, or Flash memories etc. Is a good brand to choose for Compact Flash?

Thank you in advance.

I insist with my questions.

1)Should I buy a Type II adaptor? (for a CF card)

2)Moreover, "PC card to Compact Flash adaptor" you talked about this Artemio. Is this the same as a PCMCIA?

T14,

The answer to both of your questions is yes.

You want to buy a PCMCIA Type 2 adapter.

Hi Bassman,

Thank you for your answer. So let's see this, with a CF 1GB card and a PCMCIA Type II Adapter I should be able to place the card into the Fantom X8. But now, what about conecting the card to the Computer, do I need another adapter?

Also, check this. I am from Argentina. MercadoLibre is something like Ebay but in Argentina.

Puerto stands for Port
and Adaptador for Adapter
Nuevo = New
Tipo = Type

http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA ... pcmcia-_JM

http://listado.mercadolibre.com.ar/PCMCIA

__________
Moreover when we talk about PCMCIA is it overunderstood that we are talking about "PCMCIA to Compact Flash adaptor " ??

Thank you very much, and really I am greatfull that here people are kind to answer questions like these ones to begginers. The web is great.

I think PCMCIA is the same thing as PC Card. Somone in the industry thought that people couldn't comprehend long acronyms like PCMCIA, so they renamed it "PC Card", ironically making it more confusing.

I called Roland and asked them if I needed a Type-I, Type-II, or Type-III card and they had NO IDEA what that meant. I asked if I needed a 16-bit or 32-bit card, and again the support person did not know. Their website does not have any information.

The support person did say that only Compact Flash is supported, however I don't believe him.

How in the world do they expect anyone to figure this out.

T14,

once you have the card in the Fantom, you can use teh USB cable to connect to your PC. The PC recognizes it as a standard "mass storage device" (so the OS already knows how to talk to it).

Alternatively, you can use a memory card reader for you PC and put the Compact Flash card in that.

Hi,
sorry for my not understanding but it is sometimes confusing. Here in Argentina I can not make a mistake when buying because where this kind of things are bought you cannot change them so... I will make the questions clear one by one.

1) I buy a Kingston CompactFlash 1 GB
2) Now I need the adaptor so that I can conect it to the Fantom X8. What is the name for the adapter?
3) Artemio talked about "PC card to Compact Flash adaptor"
in the FAQ in this web says "PCMCIA to Compact Flash adaptor" are these the same?
4) Should the adapter by Type II}
5) At last I need to exchange info between the card and the computer, how do I connect them? What do I need?

I hope you understand them well and answer them one by one CLEARLY.

Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
T14.
