Fantom vs. Motif - an easy choice

Post by Cliffdogg »

Played a gig tonight with the 4 Tops . . . their crew brought in a Triton (66-key) and a Motif (88-key). No comparison! My usual setup is anchored by the X-8, while supplementing it with my old 01/W. Key touch, ease of use, and quality of sounds favors the Fantom by far. This was the first time I had the chance to play a Motif for an extended period of time, and I'm glad I made the right purchase!

I don't wanna say anything bad ab'ut Motif ES, but imho Fantom X rules! Usually Yamaha makes best live sounds, like nylon guitar or grand piano, but not this time!!! :)

Hi,
I don't know if is realy a way to campare synths. Well to me at least ! I actual have a motif that I exchange to a fantom x7. Is not the sound quality for me, is more the little musical stuff etc. like RPS, Rythm stuff, Arp with many modes etc.

But I listen many of the song in this forum in the section My Music . And is AALLLLL realy Nice. From Juno to fantom etc. Thanks to peep post their song ;-)

To me it realy depend, what we look for etc. I chose the fantom for the mentionned stuff + the SRX board we can add + all sample we can add and the way to edit them.

I'm was surprise in good way by song peeps do with the Fantom Xa, is really good. But Motif is realy good too. Is personal choice + the target music ;-)

Is like a car. if you look car at the price range, if realy one is better then all others ! We will then see ! All same Car on ther road ... but is reality, you see many ;-) personal Choice ;-)

I end with, Your baby ( fantom .. ) if you own it, will always be the best ... and is the best ... ;-) ( is french traction, not sure it make sens in english )

I'll give the Motif credit for some warm string patches and a few nice rhodes sounds, but as a complete package, you can't go wrong with the Fantom.

hi guys, sorry to butt in

may i ask nikita about the motif, please? Hi nikita, i used to own fantom x and found chord function very helpful for me. does motif or motif es keyboard have the same function or something similar to "chord" function on fantom x? Another question if i may is i find fantom x sequencer the easiest to work with, how easy it is the motif sequencer in your opinion?

thank you for your help.
