Hi,
I have an XR and use the main outs into a mackie desk no gain problems at all so not sure what's going on here, if you can borrow another interface or a mixer, that might help track it down.

Also does anyone know if the XR outputs are balanced? in the manual it's not clear, but I recently picked up a Roland product brochure and in that the main outs are listed as balanced TRS but when I asked Roland the question, when I first got the XR they said unbalanced T/S.

Thanks.

Hello T20,

yes the Fantom-XR outputs are balanced !
If you use it with balanced cables you have the advantage of a better signal to noise ratio.
Search the forum with "balanced" or "TRS" keywords, it has been discussed here.

Increase the output level by 2+ or more(it is under system menu.. general setup ). Default is 0 which is right at the middle of possible highest and lowest ends.
Don't increse it too much as it will cause signal distortion .. a lot.
