well Im not sure which one to get, and NO, here in Puerto Rico its not easy to go to a store and try em out, so heres some info of me
*I dont care for a sampler...
*I really need a GREAT PIANO (at least one), maybe a few goor E. Pianos., som good organs... I REALLY NEED VERY GOOD STRING SECTIONS, love the ones on the fantom XR, i also added the old Xp's "FILM OCTAVES".
*I dont care for WINDS, BRASS, SAX... I do need very goos ETHNIC sounds, plucked, perccusive, drones...
*I NEED very good big nice detailed PADS... a lot of TRANCE SOUNDS, love the fantoms TRANCY X, really dont need the "hard solo synth" type... I prefer good "soft solo".
*I want the best posible acoustic drum sounds, need good bass drums that sound DRY, dont like those on the fantom...
*Ill be using a lot the sequencer, so the easier the better...
*i dont NEED the trigger pads of the fantom... even for playing drums, I do it better on the keys.
*D-beam is NOT a MUST
can I get some FANTOM X and XV sounds on the Xa as I did when I added XV and Xa sounds to my XR???

Hi frozendelay
The Fantom Xa is cheaper and has twice the polyphony if that helps your last minute decision.

The motif MO has no sequencer, AFAIK. So Fantomize yourself

There IS a sequencer on the MO6
Some users including myself have shown dissatisfaction with fantom drums.
Also in my opinion Yamahas tend to be better "out of the box" where rolands only truly shine with expansion boards added.
The XA however offers less expansion capability than Fantom S/X.
Having a sampler might come in handy if you really take your drums seriously.
Roland piano sounds are ace!
Roland sequencers are intuitive and give great results especially once you familiarize yourself with with the miro edit function.
Is price an issue? if it is I suggest you might be initially happier with MO6.
If not then get an XA and make some sensible expansion choices.
Also, If price IS an issue but 64 note polyphony is enough for you (it is for me), why not try to find a (used?) Fantom-S? they are awesome!!
Regards and good luck.
DogZilla: As far as I can see the XA has 128 note polyphony the MO6 124 note. The motif & 62 note. Fantom S 64 and Fantom X 128. Unless I misunderstood.

well actually the MO6 is CHEAPER than the Xa, and the MO6 DOES have a sequencer...
thanks FantAdam...
but IF I were to get an Xa, OR like you said a FANTOM S
can I still get the fantom X sounds on it???

Not sure about that. I believe the S has a different chipset to X and Xa.
My immediate guess would be on the S no and on the Xa yes. but you need someone else to answer if you need comfirmation.
Regards

From Yamaha website:
MO6 61 keys, LC Keyboard (Initial Touch)
Tone Generator AWM2
Polyphony 64 notes
Hey Fantadam - you did make me double check though as I would expect all new workstations to be 128 note poly these days

I recently bought a Motif ES7 so I am happy to share my observations in context to your questions.
Piano: Its s a difficult question, but I probably prefer the Fantom Piano, especially Nathan Sheldons version which you can download from Fantomized, however the EP's are currently better on the Motif (obviously depends on the release of SRX12).
Strings: Lush Strings are better on the Fantom, Solo Strings are better on the Motif.
Ethnic: If you've got the World SRX then you'll have an awesome arsenal, however some of the Ethnic of the Motif are clearer, crispier and more authentic.
Pads: I personally prefer the Fantom Pads, however the Motif Pads are more detailed. The Motif Pads appear to be 'classier'.
Trance: To me the Motif outshines the Fantom in terms of Trance stuff (except for the Rhythm Kits from Supreme Dance SRX). I also got a Virus, but the Motif is able to keep up with the Virus, whereas the Fantom has no chance in that regard.
Soft Solo: Definitely Motif, especially the Bass solo's.
Drum Sounds: MOTIF. I don't like the standard Fantom Drum sounds at all. I think Roland wants you to buy their Drum SRX cards. On that note, Supreme Dance Kits are good, however still not Motif quality, its just that Supreme Dance got the best TR sounds available on the market (according to my taste, which is why I've got the Supreme Dance).
Conclusion: Buy a Fantom and a Motif.
