I'm glad that I'm one of the lucky few that has realised the secret truth that there's no need to buy the Fantom G6 or Motif XS or any new workstation after 1998, once you enter the software world. There's simply no reason.

But, I guess if everyone realised that Roland and Korg would be out of business....so,carry on folks... buy the G6, N6, Z6 and whatever everyone has.

I've read on some forum, that F-G allows to record just up to 544 megs in sequencer for audio tracks. If so there is no reason for 28 audio tracks.

I don't want to have OASYS, I don't like it. I don't like Korg anymore, I hate messing with lot of software synths (they need gigabytes RAM and terabytes HDD. And windows always crashes.
I want to try out the Fantom G because now they made some useful updates to X. But if this thing about recording is true...

It is easy to talk about software based music until u download it from the internet.
If you would buy it count:
DAW apps 400-2000 USD
QL EW whatever - 1000 USD each
Waves - 3000 USD
Hundereds of quite a lot the same stuff for 20-100 USD

Plus for example here in Hungary there are just 20-30 apps I can buy legally.

That is why I shall allways get some hardware synth.

Yes - PC software based DAW doesn't come for free as you will need:
- decent audio interface
- comparable midi keyboard controller
- some kind of software rompler with adequate quality- a VST host
- preferably quiet computer (read extra cost)
- deal with potential C/R and other copy protection schemes
- a fairly powerful PC itself (yeah you can "subsidize" it by using it for whole different tasks)
- other various software licenses (for Windows, A/V software and such)

You can get free software that'll blow your mind...

Computers are cheaper than ever.

Rock-solid DAW : 700-ish USD. believe me or not.
Reaper/Energy-Xt : 50USD
A couple of cheap 10-dollar Audio CD sample libraries (for tight drum kits) - Public Enemy 2CDs, Uerbschall Sample Show - 50USD
Emu 0404 soundcard : 100 USD (I have it - rock solid)
Wave slicing software : Free (Waveknife automatically extracts wave files from audio CDs)
Beat chopping software : Free (Wavesurgeon)

Kontakt 3 - 300 USD.
Shortcircuit Sampler - Free (previously it was 250USD, now free)

All in all, around 1200USD, you can get a rock solid DAW that can do what the Fantom G and more.

But, if you're convinced that you simply can't do anything without the Fantom G, there's no changing your mind.
This is coming from a hardware guy who has 5 keyboards (Alesis Fusion, Fantom S, Kawai K5000W, Korg SG1D, Remote LE25).

Even if you only consider free software :
Sampler : Shortcircuit - can do beat chopping, load SFZ, SF2, Akai S5k/6k, REX 1/2, BATTERY 1, and waves. Supports drag and drop. Has more filters and modulation possibilities than Kontakt. Supports wave files with root key information, crossfade looping and auto-mapping and more...

Audio Editor : Audacity/Wavosaur - enough for basic wave editing.
Loop Editor : TWE (to create wave files with loop points embedded in them)

Wave chopping : WaveKnife, Wavesurgeon, shortcircuit.

Sequencer : Cubase LE comes free with Emu 0404 and is more powerful than the Fantom G.

Sounds : go to the freesound project, the CreativeCommons Mixer project, and free soundfonts website to get as many sounds as you want.

If you wanna go live, a Laptop around 1000-ish with Energy-XT and the forementioned software will do whatever you want (for live work).

Dude I was joking with you...don't take it the wrong way. A silly answer deserves an equally silly remark, so there you had it.

Anyways, like I said, if you're already brainwashed, there isn't a thing I could say that'll change your mind.

Also, notice I didn't say anything against using hardware. I simply think that if you hvae a Fantom S, or Juno G, or anything of that sort, you're simply wasting money going for a fantom G.

Hardware + Software == Raw power. Like Artemio pointed out before, the hardware that most people have now, plus the software will get you leaps and bounds ahead of anything the Fantom G will have. Therefore, buying it is a waste of money, imo.
