Fantom for Hip Hop?

I have made a number of tracks hip-hop jazz oriented beats. With the onboard sampler and audio track expansion with X8, you can those voice samples from DVD's without any hassle, alliging them at the right time in the song.

Love it for hip-hop. I have no SRX boards I've changed filters used effects and its just lovely.

I really like the ease with which you can allign audio samples in the Audio Track expansion. The Fantom has a beautiful mind. All praise necessary.

Product, Roland actually actually had the Hip Hop scene in mind when developing the FS and FX - the Pads are the living proof for that intent. However I agree that the Drums need a bit of tweaking.

I think Roland deliberately keeps the Fantom Kits a bit 'simple' so that people feel inspired to buy their SRX cards 'Supreme Dance' and 'Platinum Trax'. I got both and I must say they rock.

For Hip Hop I recommend the Kits from Platinum Trax - have a listen to the BreakBeat Kit, the DnB Kit or the Hip Hop Kit. They are dirty, they are mean and they are pungent.

Here try this... this was a quick tweak (well about an hour) to show that even stock your FX-S can kick an ass for hip hop.

it aint the best kit I have but if u want better, don't look at me, u'll have to tweak that on your own and earn it...look in the patch edit after u load it so u can see what I did, and take it from there. I only used stock waves from bank A so everyone can try it..


I hope this works...u'll need the librarian to load it..

Yeah - that's an interesting deduction. I remember the kits in the XP 50,60 & 80 being relatively "vanilla" as well. Those kits in the Techno and Hip Hop JV Expansion boards were a lot better.

Interesting reference point: In June 2004 Keyboard Magazine's John Krogh mentioned the same point.

I play the s88 in a hip hop/ reggae band. i find its great for beats, and dub piano, plus sampling for some of our songs. the x series will be great for home studio work. if you don't like the sounds --download new ones, or make them yourself from scratch.

I work in hip hop and I've seen cats sell tritons and motifs to get one. Plus before I got mine I did MONTHS of research and guess what I got?

I am still in the process of learning how to make my own sounds but I still can not seem to get it. I have made some decent beats recently though *Thumbs uP*

FAntom X is an amazing tool for hip hop, espiecially drums, try resampling some of the drum kits already using a Lo-Fi Compressor and then get a really gritty snare, like one from the noise kit, i made an awesome kit with that, then i resampled it with the effect that increases the low end i forgot the name, but just try some stuff out, its amazing what the fantom can do , its def one of the best for it.

What you mean when u say "resample?" I am new to the keyboard. *goes to read up on resampling.*
