Curious about this format - thanks for putting it together. I haven't tried to upload text files yet as I'm just beginning to transfer patches from the xp-80 to the fantom. This will be phase 2 -

Couple of questions (out of ignorance)
1 - Do you need Microsoft Access to use the program?
2 - Is there a format template for text files in general? I'm debating whether to tackle uploading some text files prior to my next gig.
3 - Does this work with all patches and saved performances?

As of now, you would need it. If I redo it in Visual Basic or something I could distribute it without the need of Access.

No. You can load any text file you want. But, it's easiest to use the default names in the \roland\pnl directory of bank0001.txt, bank0002.txt, etc.

3 - Does this work with all patches and saved performances?
The text files are loaded into the white space in Live Setting mode. If you notice, Live Setting mode has banks 1-20. You can load 1 text file per bank. If you use the naming convention from above than bank0001.txt will get loaded into the white space of bank 1. So, this being said, Live Setting allows you to store Patches, Performances, and Songs. These items you set will show up at the bottom of the screen. The middle of the screen is reserved for your notes regardless of the presets you have associated with your function buttons. I'll post a picture in 10 minutes.

Ok, here's a look. First the software screen which includes a simulation Fantom screen with working up/down buttons. Second, the resulting Fantom screen after the NotePad (text files) button is pushed. I'll clean up the software screen before I'm done. So, essentially you work on the software screen putting in your set info. Next, hook up your fantom to your laptop via USB Storage. Hit the Notepad button. Disconnect your Fantom. You're done. Now adjust patch settings on your Fantom if necessary.

You can distribute an Access application by using the packaging wizard (Access 2003) or make ACCDE on the Database Tools Ribbon Tab (Access 2007). The user would need to install the Access runtime corresponding to the version of Access used to create the package (free from Microsoft). There is more information on this in the Access help file.

There are security risks in distributing/using any Access version, but even more so on those that are no longer supported by Microsoft (anything earlier than Access 2003).

Just an update...

I'm still polishing it up. It's looking very good. I'm adding some very useful features that I have found necessary to make preparing for gigs easier. In particular, I'm adding the ability to set patch priority. With this, the application will spit you out a lineup of how your patches need to be setup for each bank or 'set' in my case. I'm actually looking to add a baseline feature where the report will show you only the necessary changes between you current setup and new one you are creating. Also, your patches will display, color coded, at the bottom of the screen simulator. This will make your configuration a breeze.

I'm also adding the ability to create a Windows Media Player playlist from you setlists. This is helpful if you use backing tracks or want to create playlists for you break music.

BTW, I'm using a relatively current version of Access. Once I release the code, I'm sure some of you guys can steal it and rewrite in in a more platform friendly language.

this software sounds really wonderful. is it available?

what output does the program have, just text files, or it actually fills in the live setting sets?

i have a little question about this facility on the X. I can save and recall patches and performances fine, even after a restart. however if i write a song to live setting edit, it disappears after a restart of the fantom. is this supposed to happen?
