noise between patches, motherboard issues, still a problem?

Post by qveda »

I'm considering purchasing a used FantomXR. Are the problems regarding noise between patches, and other issues that were supposedly acknowledged by Roland with motherboards on certain XRs still a problem?

the unit I'm considering has a serial # that starts with ZT. should I be particularly concerned ??

thanks

You will ALWAYS hear patch switching noises on ANY synth as long as you have the effects enabled. This is a universal issue with effects units loading the DSPS settings for each new patch. EVERY synth I've had does this when you change patches, Yamaha, Roland, Access, etc... The only way around this is to create user patches with identical FX settings on each patch, this is just simply something that is universal and is not a problem, it is just the nature of the beast. Even my Virus has a lag when switching patches and it is from the effects processor not the sound engine. Sorry, but this is unfortunately something you have to learn to work around if you are performing live. The way I get around it is to add effects to the actual sample before you import it.

Does this happen to me only? when patch remain is on and i mess around with realtime controllers ,when i change to another patch, the controllers remain the same and there is no way to come to their patch'original state.so,if patch remain function is on and i play with a lead for example and mess with controllers, and swith to a piano patch, the sound will be terrible.so,what's the meaning of patch remain?i can use patch remain function only when i never touch realtime comtrollers?

Another issue is: what's the original Roland's answer about the boards? are they planning to give the serial numbers of the damaged boards?
i bought mine on 2007.When i ordered it ,i made myself clear that i wanted a factory ver 2.10 keyboard, and it was really when i opened the box.but now i see the serial number it is:
ZV07592. i would like to know if it is newr board or just updated to ver 2.10 from the roland guys i bought it?

Roland....???
