New Roland Workstation? ($200 cash back from Roland on Fanto
New Roland Workstation? ($200 cash back from Roland on Fanto
I just noticed a coupon on Roland's web site - $200 (US) rebate on purchase of Fantom-X. Must mean a new Roland workstation is coming up at NAMM in a little less than 5 weeks.
Almost makes me want to try and make a killer deal on an X keyboard and then go for the $200 back (I already own the XR rack module).

Well, if it's gonna be a new workstation, I hope it has a) a better file system,
b) a hard drive,
c) more insert effects,
d) eq on each track.
Only then will we be able to do complete productions "inside the box".

Re: New Roland Workstation? ($200 cash back from Roland on F
I personally would rather the new workstation would have the ability to host a USB harddrive, than it have one built in.
some guys like me are doing just fine with a 2 GB CF card, I don't need much more space than that.
I also don't feel HD streaming is the answer for sample playback. I believe the Fantom sounds as good as if not better than the Giga sample players like Ivory, Gigastudio, etc.....
Loading samples is too time consuming.... i don't know why, I can load the same sample into VSampler on my computer from the same compact flash card, and it doesn't take nearly as long.
I love my Fantom S...... I don't think I'll ever get rid of it.
I love my(my daughter's) X8.... I doubt I'll get rid of it. when she leaves the house, I'd probably replace it with another X8.
I can't imagine what a new workstation would do, that the FantomX can't do already.. unless it goes in the direction of the OASYS, in which case, I'll lose all interest.

Anyone selling any talent??

Is there any way to confirm this?
Any leaks or rumors etc...
or is it the usual "don't want to get stuck with a warehouse full of old product"

If this is true... and with NAMM starting January 18 - 21 2007 that would mean deep discounts after Christmas.
The $200 rebate ends 12/31... but after Christmas sales could be better.
Passing up on the 200 bucks is a small to moderate risk.
You'll either get post holidiay pricing or a new product. OR there's no new product and no post holiday sale : \

Rumours, always Rumours here about a new Fantom......
I think Roland MUST bring out a new update for the Fantom.......
Because, I NEVER buy a new Fantom, or whatever, because;
You buy a Roland synt, they give one or two updates (and you must PAY for the second) than they lose the contact with their product and users............and we can buy a NEW concept!!!!!
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!!!!!!!
So READ this Roland and make the Fantom users HAPPY!!!!!
Where is Jim (Stout) ? He can tell us what and how......a few months ago he talks, on this forum, about a new Vcard for the Vsynt.......but Rumours too!

Similar discussion above. A user in the above discussion believes January '07 is the date a new one may be announced.
Seems so close to not hear anything.

Re: New Roland Workstation? ($200 cash back from Roland on F
I think it would be useful if people used the SEARCH function ... this subect has been discussed in-depth already ...
I don't think the $200 has anything to do with a Fan-X successor ... Korg has been cutting the price of the Triton-Xtreme and to move units, Roland is going to have to follow suit ...
I think Yamaha and Korg will release a new workstation before Roland because frankly, their products are less competitive at the moment (esp. witout MOSS or Legacy Collection giveaways).
... as I've written before, I believe, Roland will be content to play catch-up with the other Big 3 (as they historically have done so before in the workstation market) and implement features that they don't (not a bad plan, IMO).
I guess we'll just have to wait and see ...
However, there's also the possibility that Roland will come out with a killer new flagship workstation in the $3,500 - $4,000 price range (which I would probably buy). In that case, Roland may even continue to produce the FanX as a lower-cost pro alternative.
(IMO, the Fan-X is an outstanding board and will probably work ust as well today as it does five years from now.)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Roland Fantom X7, Alesis Fusion 6HD, Novation X/A-Station 25, Alesis Micron

Just for a laugh to add to the speculation (sorry, can't resist), if I were to bet on new products for namm 2007, then I would go for (on order of probability);
1). New oasys derived korg - probably in the shape of a new karma and/or midrange workastation to compete with Fantom and Motif. Karma is discontinued and they've been trying hard to shift extremes using give aways - worthwhile ones at that though!
2). New motif. Users (including myself) seem to think that it's time for a new one - given poor GUI and OS is user unfriendly being the biggest gripe.
It does seem that product life cycle is dropping, these two above have only been around for about three years, but the concept and some hardware designs (the extreme still uses EDO simms!) have been around for about a decade.
I find it very unlikely that Roland will release a new workstation, I reckon the Fantom is good for at least another year yet! It was the last of the big three to be released - Roland will respond to the market as the threat appear. Just for interest, I have a Korg karma and hence frequent the Karma forums. Stephen Kay tries and keeps track of Oasys serial numbers and he reports that about 2400 (88key and 76key) Oasysies have been sold. Put your own interpretation on this.
Cheers, Steve

Re: New Roland Workstation? ($200 cash back from Roland on F
I misunderstood that post entirely. : (
Re: New Roland Workstation? ($200 cash back from Roland on F
Traditionally Roland announces major new MIDI keyboard products such as the Fantom, Juno, SH-201, etc. only at Winter NAMM shows. So that will be in about 4 weeks - January 18, 2007. The $200 rebate indicates, as in times past, that indeed a successor to the Fantom-X will be announced and shown at NAMM.

Yeah I figured out what you meant after i posted. Total brain fart.
