More "song full" hell . . .
Hi I've just been working on a song on my Fantom X6. I would like to export it to my computer to work on it in Sonar. I have selected save song as SMF. I hav egone through the various stages and then been told "Song Full". I have tried everyting I could to save it as a midi file. I have a 1gb compact flash card with about 70% free. I have cropped the length of the song down, that didn't work, I even chopped it down to a couple of bars and that didn't work. I then reformatted the card via the Fantom and it still won't work, I have changed the name that doesn't work, I have tried MIDI 0 and MIDI 1 that doesn't work. how the hell am I supposed to export my song to my flash card so I can read it on my computer ! I am at the end of my tether here !
thanks as always.

Oh dear. I move MIDI songs with ease between Sonar 5 and my Fantom X6.
You seem to have tried everything. The only thing I can suggest is to check everything works ok the other way, just to narrow the problem down a bit. In Sonar, save a MIDI-only song onto your flash card in the correct sub directory. I assume you have a little USB reader like I have, so you can then take the flash card over to the Fantom. Does it load and play ok there? If so, then at least you've established the card and the reader mechanism is behaving correctly.
When you try to save a song, is it MIDI only, or does it have audio samples involved also?

Hi, I did already try that, it will happily read MID files from Sonar, it will also happily save songs to the card as SVQ extensions, just not MIDI files. It's driving me crazy !
Any other ideas ?

First, check your OS version and make sure to update it if needed:

Usually when i get the "song full" error, its when the X is just on the verge of freezing. (thats unless you actually have reached the max notes in the sequencer - which I doubt, since I never have and still received this error)...
just curious.. Do you do a lot of "undo's?" - like doing the same take over and over while your working?
At this point the only thing you can do is power cycle the X, (off then on). However, since it can't/won't save, you will loose any sequencer/song data up to this point.
However, if your midi'd up to Sonar, you will want to track the midi out in to Sonar live. ie - play song in the x, record midi (and maybe audio) into sonar.
After you power cycled, record the midi data back in to the X, and use the "extract" command separate the tracks as before.
If you've never saved at all - (ie. this is your first time saving) your still screwed, since your patch information will be lost.
It helps to do perodic saves as your working, (with slightly diff file names from time to time) to act as a backup so you have something to fall back on when crap like this happens.

Re: More "song full" hell . . .
Thanks guys for the advice so far, I am getting a bit closer. The fantom will save the song as an SVQ file so I not losing anything but I just can't save as a midi file to export. Unfortunately the X6 and computer are a long way apart and I can't connect direct. I tried the same thing with another file and that also wouldn't save, however a 3rd file did. What I did notice was both of the fiels that wouldn't save had at somepoint had audio tracks in them, even though they had no samples loaded now, the file that saved had never had audio tracks. Would this make a difference ?
thanks
thanks

You may try saving in MIDI file format 0 instead of 1, or vice versa.

Hi Artemio - I tried that one as well, as far as you know is there a problem saving a file that has had ausio samples attached at some point via audio tracks - even if they are not loaded in ?
thanks
PS I will check the OS later as well just in case but it does save some fioles.

OS version check and update is task #1 for you now!
Anyway, you can also try to delete the audio tracks and then save as SMF.

Re: More "song full" hell . . .
Hi again, I've checked the OS and I am running on 2.0 so I can upgrade to 2.1. It definately seems to be somthing to do with the audio tracks. I can easily save other songs as SMF 0 and 1 but no songs with an audio track will save, even if the audio track is unloaded / deleted. Can anyone think of a workaround - a way of cutting and pasting tracks into a new song maybe or anything in the librarian that migth help convert an SVQ file ?
thanks again
thanks again

Yes, there is a way to import your tracks into a clean song:
- - Go to sequencer
- Clear the song
- Go to song list
- Select your song
- Select "Load Track"
- Choose to load all tracks

Fantastic idea, I'll give it a go. Interestingly this has forced me to work with the Fantom sequencer a lot more then I have in the year that I've owned it. It really is a good a bit of kit and very usable - but I can still work quicker and do more detailed work in Sonar !
Thanks for everybody's help
