I've been trying to find this feature on my fantom for some time now. I understand the skip back sampling which is a nice feature. However, I am trying to mix in a sound from another machine in real time to a track on the fantom X.
Let me explain... I have a EMU MP-7 plugged into the mic input of the fantom X. Let's say I created a 8 track 8 bar loop on the fantom X. I then hear a sound on the mp7 that I like. I want to apply it to track 9 on the fantom X.
I hit the mix in button on the fantom X and press play on the fantom x. I can hear the sound im playing on the mp7 but how do I record it in real time to a track?

Hi kbone, remember that tracks are sequencer tracks, they are midi data tracks not audio tracks. (midi data is not audio data!) If you are putting audio data into your X you need to record (resample) it as audio and then using your audio tracks expansion capability (version 2.0 or higher) generate a song that mixes the sequenced tracks and the audio sample file.

Yes, that does make since. In other words. I have to import the sound as a patch in the fantom X. I can then assign that patch to a midi channel within the fantom x. I am familiar with that process already. I have dumped thousands of sounds into the fantom x on a 1GB flash card.
I was just wondering if I could record to one of the tracks like a standard audio track. Thanks for the reminder and update Mr. "Still Learning".
I guess, I will just have to load my tracks into the pc and then sequence the additonal sounds on my other equipment in real time on the pc.

No computer needed! Just do what still learning said. you wouldn't be adding the MP7's sound to X's track 9, you would record it on one of the eight AUDIO tracks in real time. I have a similar set-up(X6 & E-MU XL7 + microkorg). You don't need the computer unless you'd rather do it that way

You guys are so fortunate. My EMU MP7 was stolen from my music some months ago. O how I miss it! I love iMU's drum patches and filters. You guys enjoy your work while I search Ebay for a new command station.
FYI - when I used my MP7 with my Fantom X8 - I got great results using S/PDif out of the MP7 to the Fantom's S/Pdif in. Great digital syncing, good quality for audio track, and no challenges getting the BPM right (if I was sampling a loop from the MP7).

I just hate the ugly-ass puke yellow of the XL7! I thought about painting it,but..... Atleast the MP7's a groovy purple(if I'm thinking of the right machine)
