some pianos sound phazed out

Post by blanc »

Help please. Some of the pianos and the drum kits sound like they have a phaser inserted onto them but they defnitely don't. I have performed numerous factory resets. it only happens in Patch/Rythm mode and not in mixed mode.

can someone pplease help me.

Are you sure it's different in performance and patch modes? Very strange. Seems like the stereo path is turned to mono. Do you have the latest OS update installed (version 1.07 or 2.10)?

Midi echo?

Make sure you have your midi interface disconnected. I find that the midi note gets re-played from the sequencer software and I get a phase type effect due to the time delay.

Good point Mark.

The way I recommend attacking problems like this is to remove all cables from your X8 and leave only the AC power and the headphones. depending on the particular problem, you should also remove all expansion cards (SRX-02, etc.) and the expanded memory, and the expansion flash storage memory. Then turn on your X8, do a factory reset, power-down, power back up, and see if the problem is present in the headphones (usually the problem has gone away.) Then add things and connections back, (one at a time) and repeat the power-down, power back up routine. A systematic approach like this usually isolates the problem and once you have it isolated it is easier to solve.

thanks guys. great help. will try everything later. Artemio, i have the version before 2.10. i have audio track expansion but i can't do the upgrade to 2.10 because you have to have a PC card ( or adapters etc...) inserted and i haven't got round to getting one yet. It very well might be linked to the MIDI inserted but i hold reservations as i am not always in sequencer software or the CPU is not on.

I just have to say that this is the best site for Roland users. Love it...

same problem

Hi blanc, I have a similar problem with my fantom x6. I connected it to the pc via usb and transfered just one file. I did not use any midi. However after that the piano patch sounds as though it has a phaser effect on it. I have tried numerous factory resets as well as tried removing the expansion memory and card too.

I understand that you had a similar problem. If you were able to solve it please tell me how you did it.
Much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi ABCD

Make sure the keyboard is not MIDI enabled through USB.( which i think you have done ). Also, try and disable your MIDI on your pc. Also, if you have any MIDI cables connected to the PC remove them.

I did all that and it worked for me. It is amazing , however, that you have to go to such extreme measures on this "high end" keyboard to have normall functionality.

Anyway, hope it works........
