importing-converting patches.

Post by rickysee »

Does anyone out there know If I can convert sounds from my XP 60 to my Fanton x7? I had a killer moog lead sound that I use on Frankenstein and no matter how hard i have tried to dupliate it on my fantom..it just won't happen. I loaded the free XV patches from the roland site and most of those are the exact sounds from the xp 60. I coulsd use some help. I have had little success in recieving replys from my posts.

Well I read your post but can't help... sorry.

But wanted to let you know...
I too have a hard time getting answers to my posts. I don't know why that is. Maybe if we post more and get "known" in the forum that might help our posts get noticed more?

rickysee,

This forum is far from being just for the 'Fantom Elite'. A lot of questions get answered here. . . . . . . . but that's another subject.

Check this thread for some info on folks who had the same question.

Sometimes a thread is not responded to because:
a.) No one knows the answer.
b.) The question did not provide enough detail (step-by-step explanation of what you're doing, etc.)
c.) Your configuration or setup/situation is unique to most members.
d.) Folks may consider the answer accessible if more searcing was done by the thread starter.
e.) Myself, the other Mods, or other members simply let it lapse. Artemio and the Moderators try to garner a response for all threads that we can. Sometimes, however, that isn't possible.

Anyway, you'll have to excuse me right now, the President is holding on the other line.
;-))

In what aspect that the sound you recreated is not comparable to XP sound?
Your posting is not that clear either. You already got XV sounds and it doesn't have the sound you want or the sound you got is not good enough?
Look for original wave forms of XP and you can recreate new one. Watch for MFX and Chorus/Reverb too.
Conversion from XP to FX format is not that portable at this point. Someone said only a single byte is diferent between patch formats. I don't know which one or how to convert.

Bassman put it right. I generally come here at least twice a day (usually 4-5 times a day actually) and I look at posts which 1) have topics I am familiar with, or 2) have no answers yet, or 3) were not answered by a guy which I know I can trust (Bassman, Dave, Nate, etc. ;-)). So if your post doesn't get into one of these categories, then I simply can't help you... But if it does, this means I missed it, whoops ;-)

Now, back to the topic. As far as I know, noone had success with the XP-to-XV and XV-to-Fantom converter software, so it's easier for you to dig in the parameters and re-create the patch on the Fantom. All functions of the JV/XP engine are there, and the sound results will be almost exact.

I want to thank all who responded..i really do appreciate it. Part of the reason I have had difficulty is that the XP ( such an amazing gig tool) is buried in the trailer and it was easier for me to grab a floppy the the data on it than actually dig in to parameters one by one. The difference in the sound I have created on the Fantom as opposed to the XP is in two areas...playability and low end response. Once I pull the Xp out i will want to look at the structure i used on the waveforms and some of the aftertouch settings. i swear the sound I have from the xp on that tune is HUGE. I now realize that by creating a layer as opposed to a patch i can utilize all three insert effects in series...so I'll simply place the EQ at the end of the chain to fatten. I am posting another new topic on trying to assign pads on the Fantom x to call up the 16 parts in a performance.
Thanks.
