Hello, I'm not an avid poster but I frequent this forum regularily and enjoy the time spent here. I'm hoping some knowledgeable person can point me in the correct direction to recreate the "Lucky Man" sound by ELP, on the Fantom XR.
I have searched the forums, but didn't find any info on it.
A patch download would work or some instruction on how to do it myself would be just as fine. The XR's menus and terminology has left me somewhat baffled and bewildered, and all attempts have been abysmal sounding. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Lucky Man Sound
Well I guess that as this was made on a Moog modular if I am not mistaken it might prove successful to kind of think about how the sound was built. I would suggest to start off by a long square or saw/sine lead sound with 2 or more oscillators, adding a pinch of portamento and perhaps detuning the two or 3 oscillators ever so slightly against each other and tweaking the filter to make it sound luckymannish. good luck (pun intended)!
(Haven't got my fantom yet so I am just telling you what I know from my Moog(s))
Hope this helps,
Martin

Thanks Martin,
That's pretty much what I thought as well, however, there's over 1400 wave forms on my XR and about 80 that seem to qualify as sine/square/saw waves. Toss in terms such as TVF, TVA, TMT, PPE etc. and it's hard for me to know exactly where to start. Where's the darn ADSR?
Guess I'll just dive in while the water's warm and try to stay afloat.
By the way, what Moog's do you have?
Thanks again
Steve

Re: Lucky Man Sound
Steve, we actually play Lucky Man in our set, and I'm using two sounds that I found on the FX8 that required very little tweaking. One for the main sound that the solo plays and another for that comb filter effect in the low register. You know, that "tom sawyer" effect. I can't get to my FX for a day or two but I'll try to remember to find out which patches. I have the Ultimate Keys SRX installed, and if memory serves me correctly though, I'm pretty sure its off of that SRX.

Hey Mike, that's great news. "Very little tweaking" is what I wanted to hear! And I too have the Ultimate Keys SRX installed. I may know what patch you're thinking of from the Ultimate Keys, but the comb filter effect has eluded me so far. I play the song in our band as well, and have been using a Yamaha S80 with that patch on it. Unfortunately, it's a pain for me to "real-time tweak" the sound with that board. Looking forward to hearing back from you. Thanks.

Re: Lucky Man Sound
I could have swore that there was a Lucky Man patch on the SRJV80 exansion boards.. If you have the disk that comes with the Ult. Keys it should be on there.. just bring it over and fix it with the Library and you should be golden.
Maybe I'm wrong but I just remember it somewhere... but that doesn't me is sounds the same or even close because I've avoided ELP my whole life. I'm more into funk synth and keys....hope I helped in some small way

Yeah Rebel, you're right. I had the JV patch on my xp30 and I'm sure its the same one on the FX but I don't think they call it 'Lucky Man' anymore. I'll dig it up for ya. And that comb filter patch I use at the end of the piece for the low D notes. I guess its really an envelope which gives it that 'whaaaoooow' sort of sound. And I'm pretty sure its an Oberheim sound because it reminded me of the beginning of Rush's Tom Sawyer.
