HELP, Fantom X6 will not save to card
HELP, Fantom X6 will not save to card
After completing a song I tried to save it, and the samples, to my card but my Fantom X6 will not seem to let me. It keeps giving me an error message, "User Area full". I have a 512MB CF card that I have successfully saved numerous songs+samples to (which has 489MB left right now), 512MB of sample RAM which has 490MB available space and my User memory which, is currently at 2.4MB remaining. Everytime I choose the save song+samples option and choose the card "tab" at the bottom, then save, it saves the song but not the samples to the card, when it normally would say "writing samples" it fails and gives me the message above. This is pretty urgent, I did a full night of recording music for a client looking for music to accompany a low budget film, I guess until I can get some help I will just leave the fantom on and cross my fingers that I do not have a power failure. Btw, I doubt there is a way to back it all up considering the samples are not actually saved yet but any method you can think of that would allow me to get these audio samples off of here would be great.
Re: HELP, Fantom X6 will not save to card
I don't know how to solve the error on the fantom, but if you've got a computer you can just record each track in audio with a program like audition or audacity.
That way you at least don't lose all your hard work.

Please try selecting CARD as destination!
For the Samples, in Sample List mark all the Samples to Save, then press Write and SELECT CARD!

Re: HELP, Fantom X6 will not save to card
I always select card and this time is no exception (I have saved songs+samples to the card many times before with no problems). I tried saving all samples and it gave me the "writing all samples" screen for only about a second (there is no way it is saving anything because there is probably about 30MB of samples; they are audio tracks).
I did a user backup and it did save 5 out of the 8 audio tracks I had recorded (man is that odd, I figured it would have been all or nothing). I really do need those other tracks, anymore suggestions? I will continue to read the manual but this really seems like a strange problem.

Re: HELP, Fantom X6 will not save to card
I just tried it a few more times, no dice.. Is there any way I can force this keyboard to write to the card, some sort of code like up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A (oh wait that's the Konami code); this is so frustrating.
Whenever I select card and save "songs+samples" it saves the song to the card and appears to be trying to save the samples to the user area. Is there some sort of default sample save location preference that I have somehow missed; I have looked everywhere and there does not seem to be such an item (plus it has worked before and I have not changed anything). Btw, I just called Roland support and due to the NAMM show there will be no support until the 23rd or 24th, PERFECT timing!

Re: HELP, Fantom X6 will not save to card
I just noticed that the two samples that will not save even under the user backup option have an "edit" status next to them in the sample list; I have not edited them at all but maybe this is why the user backup only grapped the 5 or so other samples in the user area (the other samples did not have anything under status). I have to go out of town today but I will put the trip off as long as possible (I definitely do not want to have this on for 4 straight days), any help would be greatly appreciated.
Re: HELP, Fantom X6 will not save to card
A very similar thing happened to me with my FS the other day. I do not rely on my memory to do things. Instead, I use a cheat sheet (I have typed out steps for a variety of things I do such as record, save, etc.).
I KNOW that I saved my song to "Card". It took several seconds, maybe close to a minute, to save. There was no message but, after I had assumed the song was saved and turned off the FS and later came back to it, there was no song saved to the card.
Fortunately, I had saved it on the computer. But, I really did want it on the FS as well. It was one of few songs that I have sequenced that I actually liked.
So, if anyone has any idea(s) as to what happened, I would certainly appreciate hearing from you.

Re: HELP, Fantom X6 will not save to card
Ok, I think I figured it out but if this is the case then I would consider this a very annyoing quirk with this Fantom X6 OS. I had to clear out everything I was not using in my user area then save to the user area, then transfer these files to my card. Then I had to power off and on and then load the song (no samples) from the card, then load the samples from the card (it would not recognize the samples until reloading them from the card). Then when I saved the entire song it would finally allow me to save to the card.
Now this is ok for now but if my tracks were say just a few megs larger I would not have had enough space to save them to the user area first, transfer them to the card, then reload and save the song and remapped tracks to the card. In conclusion, it seems that if you do not work with the card from the start you have to go through all of this. This was the first time that I worked straight from memory then tried to save to the card when I was done. I guess because I saved a few times during the recording process it must have mapped saving the samples to user memory because there was no card, then at the end, when I had a little bit more than 32MB of samples, it kept saving the files to the user area but could not because of the lack of memory. This sucks, Roland should make sure that saving songs and samples to the card or user area should work regardless of what you saved to initially (maybe I have a really old/buggy version of the F-X OS). Oh well, catastrophy averted, for now... (j/k I know better now).

Re: HELP, Fantom X6 will not save to card
what OS are you using?
Re: HELP, Fantom X6 will not save to card
it's simple the reason you can't save to the user area is because of no more room in the user area.thatz what the error message is "user area full".This happened to me also. One thing I found out you can only have whatever memory is installed in ur system (mine =256+32 = 288mg)
worth of samples at one time so simply put if u only have 32 megs it doesn't matter how much the card is 256,512,1 gig.
only 32 mgs will load and be in resident memory until you unload them.
