i have a crate mixer and powered amp.
we had a yamaha that hooked up to our mixer with a mono that was called L/R. it was only one cable that went to the mixer.
i tried this with the Fantom XA i just bought and it sounds very distorted?? not sure why.
do i need to hook up 2 cables to it in the L and R or can i just use only one?.
p.s. i did just try 2 cables and it was still distorted.
i may try doing a factory reset. i just bought this from someone.
any help or thoughts is appreciated. this is all new to me. thx.
mono?
Re: mono?
I'd be surprised if the problem is anything to do with the Xa. Did you try lowering the gain on the crate mixer input channel? .. or lowering the volume of the Xa?
Exactly which model of Crate mixer are you using? ... perhaps we'll be able to give you some more specific advice if we know the details of your mixer.
BTW, in general, the Fantom series do tend to sound better when used in stereo rather than in mono for live applications.

Hi,
i just came back from trying again.
i did do a factory reset. at least now i can hear an instrument when i play. i can hear the piano, but it doesn't play very loud and it's distorted.
i tried doing mono or stereo. same results. not very loud and distorted.
i then plugged it into my yamaha psr640 and sounded great and very loud.
is there some kind of setting in the xa??
i did play with the gain, put it on low, then medium, then high.
i also played with the level.
i don't know what else to do??
here is a link to the mixer i have.
you'll see in the picture:
i used the far left one for mono.
the 5th channel i tried with stereo.
i also tried the auxiliary input.
they all sounded the same, very low and distorted.

fixed!
i bought this XA off of ebay. it came with a cheap power supply. i didn't think twice about it. i finally took it to the local music store thinking maybe someone there could help me. as soon as we hooked it up there was a large humming sound! i said, see, that's the problem we have with our pa system. the music store's xa was working fine with their same speaker. so the customer rep there, looked at my power supply. then he took his PSB-1U power adaptor from the XA and hooked it up to my XA and it worked perfect!!!!
so...if anyone has this problem, make sure you have the right power supply that is in the specifications of the manual! thx for everyone's help.
