alright mate

I am about to try my FXR with Live 4, if that helps. Not sure when, as I'm really needing a decent little mixer so I can use my ASIO drivers. Currently playing with Korg Legacy Collection & Atmosphere as soft synths.. fantastic things.
I LOVE Live 4 .. finally, a PC DAW I feel I can understand & use & most importantly, ENJOY... !!

R

Rob

XR and Live

Post by eken »

I use both (5 and Fantom). I have an XR rack and use Live to send midi drum patterns or play a sequence since the rack does not have a sequencer. The ablity to record midi keys and tie them to events in Live is easy and powerful. It would be nice if live used Cubase, Protools or Cakewalk instrument definitions, so you could easily map instruments. Maybe next version. I have not done much with live and more advanced midi, but I suppose you could set up a pan effect and have it send the commands in sync etc.
Midi only is very light on the computer and you can map keys or knobs to vary temp. I throw VST instruments in and layer with the fantom as well.

Running midi only would be rock solid, since it would all be in memory and use very little of it. Doing loops (non-midi) could hiccup on stage, so you have know your computer.

It is a powerful mix.

the more i use Live, the more i love it. What's the primary difference between 4 & 5?

I used to use a Zoom hard disk multitracker, which i sold, when i played my Ableton sketches (have only been using it for less than a week) to my mate he was amazed at how "full" everything sounded.

This to me is the perfect PC recording thing... it's v easy to learn & quick :)

Also helps that my girlfriend bought me an early xmas pressie in the shape of a soundcraft mixer :)

btw...
can i use VST reverbs etc with Live, and how? I have Waves Gold Bundle on a *cough* cd ... just wanted to see if it works, but after installing it, it doesn't show up in Live, despite rescanning

Rob

Live Fantom

I forgot to mention you can do some serious audio routing with Live. Set up a macro so that when you hit a kit (say the lowest left key) it turns on the audio through one of the built in plugins in live 5 or vst. I also use a foot midi controller, so I can hit a pedal and the effect turns on - a leslie for the keyboard, or robo voice effect. Works great.

well guys - LIVE5 really rocks, and in Sptember/2006 there is new release of LIVE6 going to hit the market. I tried many tools but for me this one is the best (and easiest to learn). It is very intuitive and inspirational. I just love it.

i have Ableton Live 5, but I haven't really got around to learning the program as far as audio recording goes...

I really like the quality coming out of Live, especially, their drums (very punchy) and softsynth sounds...
the quality is definately better than Fruity Loops...
