i was thinking about an upgrade for the Xa (funny, i have an Xa)
like an audio track expantion. it seems that a 4 track expantion of it would be do able. i'd drop 50 bone for that.
what do you guys think.

Naji,
its in the NI website. www.nativeinstruments.com
In that, click on prodcuts --> reaktor 5 and click on that video. Low quality should be sufficient cos high quality is like 120 mB!!!

Hey Sam, thanks for the link. I had a look at the Video. You are right, he is truly awesome. I also read his interview, very interesting read. Makes you wonder if hardware Synth are soon becoming a 'thing' of the past...

Hardware a "thing of the past"?
In the studio- probably. For live play-no way. Have you tried to play a keyboard, shuffle a mouse around, and "bob yo head", all at the same time? Not to mention multiple pieces of hardware to lug around, etc...

For live play :
You can still get a solid laptop for audio ONLY and use fader boxes/controllers to play the stuff. True, Harware is just rugged and stable, but software can be stable too....especially if you know what you are doing with it and not install junk...

Re: New Fantom 2006 ????
Hi guys, just a few thoughts on this hardware/software discussion:
Herbie Hancock's live-gear is a Laptop - his Rhodes are the EVP88 from Logic.
Radon, check out Tim Exile on the video (link given by Sam), its quite astonishing what he does live just with a Laptop and a few controllers. I couldn't do his act with my live-rig of FantomX, Access Virus KC, SupernovaII, Yamaha RS7000 and RmkII.
I also liked Tims interview, in-particular his discussion on analog vs digital and his thoughts that 'phatt analog' is backward while complex DSP constructs are the future.

RE: NEW ROLAND...
Hi to all...
Recently I met with some guy from Roland, during meeting with my good friend, who is distributor of Roland in my country (Music AP) During talk with him, I heard some rumors about new rack synth, with fire wire connection, which will be hardware and software synth at the same time,
will have 256 voices, 32 part multitimbrality "unlimited flash storage" (his words about hi-speed flash cards) touch screen monitor, and additional DVI output, DVD burner and 24/96 DAC, with 8 individual analogue outputs, and 8 separate effects processors, like VFX cards, and new type of "Universal hardware expansion slots" whatever that means,
He said it will be shown as a prototype at Frankfurt Musik Messe, march 2006.
So, what to say, as happy owner of FX7?

Hmm...."universal hardware expansion"sounds interesting....
either that or you're a class A troll.

more wishes
and don't forget us guys who use our fantoms out gigging and recording alot....
how about 1/4-xlr combo plugs for Balanced "Outputs A" L/R, so you don't need direct boxes to go to the board, but you can still plug into your roland k/b amp at home or at a smaller gig
mic modeling from the vs recorders compatible with akg 3000 so you can record quality vocal tracks w/o lugging around a bunch of outboard gear,
or better yet SRX cards with plug-ins instead of patches, etc. (is that even possible, Artemio?)
1/4-xlr 48V phantom powered audio input jack for sampling that you can ALSO use to plug in your roland organ module and a mount that holds the org module right on your fantom (left side please).... OR you could use two keyboards w/o having to use a mixer
a CD/DVD drive so you can load data/audio and burn CD's of your latest work, or record the gig on the audio tracks, (or better yet, straight to storage installed in the usb port) and make band members a copy after the gig
some form of high capacity, hot swappable (sp?) cheap long-life storage to use in usb
chassis endcaps that don't come loose constantly
a thin, nonstatic plastic see-through cover (like on cash registers, adding machines, etc.) so the fog machine and cigarette smoke doesn't ruin the buttons (always the first thing to go) I would pay dearly for this, as it would extend the life of my keyboards fivefold....maybe that's why the don't sell them.
a clip or locking mechanism to keep the a/c cord from coming out when you're using the sequencer live, (always a bummer, even when it happens during the gtr solo) because it takes so long to reload 512mb worth of samples, ....an OS problem
protection for the knobs, maybe like the rail on the POD XT LIVE pedalboard
more than one assignable footswitch jack, you know like 1.sustain, 2.volume, 3.leslie, or to start/stop sequences.... better yet just make output B jacks assignable
and make the jacks more durable, we plug and unplug them 300-400 times a year
and that's just on the outside....now let's talk about the OS
R U Listening Roland?
....and still, I'd rather have my fantom than anything out there, but then.... I'm a "Roland True Believer"

Hmmm...
A new rack synth? Maybe to replace the XV-5080? I wonder if they would release a keyboard version?
Anyway, after using a Motif ES for a good 3 hours at Guitar Center - I would like for the new Roland workstation to have bigger and better DSP horsepower in editing samples.
Reversing samples with a 5.1525 khz sample conversion rate in the Yamaha Motif ES 6 was really getting some weird and amazing results. We were recording people as they walked around the showroom - edited the samples - and produced sounds that were horrific and exciting. Roland's skip back sampling is so good that it is a disappointment not to have more things in there to "mess up" the samples.
I spend way too much time talking about "what if" so I will finally be quiet for a while.
Best,
Andrew

well
as almost all big comanys ,intel amd ,microsoft, and all others have the internetional rules ,
to stay alive they must release somethink new at least once a year and as u see fantom has grow from many version ,
and it will continiu growin as they must keep their name, roland.
so my guess they allready have made the next fantom,or what ever it is and many others and just waitin for the right moment to release it when pplz get tired of the old modules.
and it can happen in the end of 06 or middle but dont expect them to get whole new module in the start of 06..
what will the new include?
hmm i think it will be new sounds improvments to the real sond's engyne, guitars brass and other shit.and new name for it....................................................
its same shi.t as intel could release a new proccecor evey mounth, relly mounthly.and not every year as they do....
all becouse pplz dont need more they can keep up with the software and ,same with sounds ,couse those who use the fantoms to make money and all the world hearin the sounds its makin, well it takes time until u get bored with the old and need somethink new to get excited...
this is my opinion..
