Changing Patches on the XR from a Midi Kybd

Post by Fast Fred »

I have a Fantom XR.
I am able to change attack, sustain, release, decap, portamento, volume, vibrato, resonance, etc on a patch from my Midi Kybd. I assign the controller number to a slider and it works very well.

I would like to change patches on the Fantom XR from the midi keyboard but it is not intuitively opbvious to me.

I did receive a note back from someone trying to help and it asked me to read the manual (which I have) and the individual cut and pasted the following info.

=================================================
>>>>>The controller numbers are in the manual however here is a short breakdown
Preset bank A
msb CC# 0/87
lsb CC# 32/64
Pgm 1-128

Preset bank B
msb CC# 0/87
lsb CC# 32/65
Pgm 1-128
......
......
......
<<<<<<<<<<<
=========================================

I appreciate the help but I am still not there.
Maybe if someone explained to me an example.
If I wanted to pull up USER 22 how would I approach that?

Any and all is appreciated.

Hi fred
It was me who posted the last reply to you. I,m sorry that it has not helped. Some midi keyboards are simply not able to send complex programe changes. The numbers that I posted are simply the sequence of controller and programe changes that are needed to change the XR patches from any external device.
For example, your question " How would you select User 22"
You have to get your keyboard, sequencer or footcontroller to send 3 mesages

1) controller 00 value 87 (MSB uses CC# 00)
2) controller 32 value 00 (LSB Uses CC# 32)
3) Prgrm chg 22

This sequence of controller messages and programe change tells the XR what patch to select. User 22 in this case. Some midi keyboards are capable of sending groups of messages like this. Some are not. You will have to read the documentation on your keyboard to find out.
Failing that, you may have to get some kind of footcontroller that is capable.

Does this Help?

Shaggy,

Tried it.
Was only able to change to 2 different General Midi patches. I am going to take your advice about the midi foot switch and research that approach.

I'll let you know and do appreciate the communication.

Thanks,
Fast Fred

p.s. any relation to Scooby?
