Hello everyone,
Ive owned the an X8 for about 4 months now and have not had very much time to learn it yet. I did load the mixer software that came with it and played around with using the virutal mixer on the laptop to control the on screen mixer on the x8. This got me wondering, is it possible that I could buy one of those USB digital mixers that interface with pc software to actually control the virtual sliders on the x8 screen with the physical sliders on the usb mixer? This would be great for live application I would think as this is primarily what I will use this keyboard for.
Has anyone tried this?
Thanks,
Todd

Is this possible?
Re: Is this possible?
Hi Todd.
To answer your question, no, this is not possible. The Fantom-X8 only supports USB Mass Storage mode as a storage device and USB MIDI. USB MIDI mode requires a host controller (such as a computer). Since the Fantom-X does not have a USB controller built-in, you could not connect non-host controller devices to it (such as CD-ROM drives or external USB mixers).

Re: Is this possible?
Thanks for your response nsheldon but that is not what I am trying to do. I understand that the Fantom-X does not support external devices. I want to have the Fantom-X hooked to my PC with the virtual mixer software that it came with running.
On top of that I want to know if I can hook up a digital/master mixer/controller to operate the sliders on the pc software, which are in turn operating the sliders on the keyboards screen. This is what I was thinking may be possible.......
Any more help?
Thanks again,
Todd

Re: Is this possible?
Hi Todd.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. This may in fact be possible depending on the control surface you use. Though the Fantom-X Editor does not provide support for external control surfaces, some control surfaces might be configurable to send MIDI SysEx messages (which is what the Fantom-X and the Editor both require). If the control surface is configurable to send user defined SysEx messages where the movement of the slider can affect one or two the bytes of that message as the slider moves, then it can control the Fantom-X, and should be able to affect the Fantom-X Editor as well, though I'm not positive about this.
