OH NO!!!! NOT NOW!!
Re: OH NO!!!! NOT NOW!!
try removing and installing the usb controller drivers
try reinstalling the fantom drivers when it is not plugged in...
try a new cable
try a dif usb slot...if you are plugging in back, try front...
the latter two were my solutions when i had tisproblem first time,...then the first two on my second problem....no trouble since then (knockknock)

Tried all except one
Tried all except reinstalling the fantom drivers. Will try that. Thanks
Re: OH NO!!!! NOT NOW!!
Hmmm ... here's some more ideas:
- try a shorter cable or try an active USB-cable (this resolved all my transfer problems)
- remove all other USB-devices from your computer before connecting your Fantom again
- try it with a different computer
Good luck!

Re: OH NO!!!! NOT NOW!!
I don't know what this Fantom community is, but standing outside of this circle I would point out you made mention of installing Norton Antivirus a few posts ago.
Have you tried uninstalling Norton Antivirus fully?
Are you certain it isnt Norton Utilities (which includes the firewall)?
Does the "Portable USB Storage device" run on USB 2.0 or 1.1? If 2.0, are you using a PCI Addon card, or is it mainboard?
Since I'm only using this site as research, I doubt I'll be back to respond, but I will post what I suspect.
Norton Utilities was installed or a variation of a firewall or a firewall update. Try getting rid of Norton (as I must point out is very poorly constructed) reguardless if its Virus-scan, Utilites, Firewall, Cleansweep etc. Use alternate programs like WindowWasher, BlackIce Network Security, Trend PC-cillian etc. Those are my preferred choices over resource hogging Norton.
On the otherhand, if this device is connected to a 2.0 PCI addon card to add functionality to your computer, you might consider running the same device on a 1.1 USB port. Even though it may run slower, there will be a minimal chance compared to the 2.0 that data would come through corrupted.
Or, it might not be 2.0 compatible at all anyway.
Theres a ton of scenarios I could run through but these are the ones I came up with provided the information in the thread.
Good Luck

Re: OH NO!!!! NOT NOW!!
I'm really not sure that this is the problem.
I had this same ANNOYING problem a week ago. At first, when I tried to go into a file in the FX memory (using the USB and the pc) it showed me a FAN file with a name like -@& or something...Something freaky.
Later on, when I tried to get open a folder (ROLAND or TMP) it "opened" the same folder again. The address bar showed:
".../ROLAND/ROLAND/ROLAND/ROLAND", etc...or the same with the TMP. Something has freaked out with...something.
Then, the worst thing happened, ALL of the memory in the Fantom was GONE, like I've just formatted the Fantom. I almost wanted to suicide (hehe)...Then I remembered that I backed it all up two days before. Wasn't perfect, but a relief.
So, I thought it was the new version, 1.05. I installed it a day or two before I don't remember. So this was the closest "change" in the PC or the Fantom.
After all of this, I formatted the Fantom again. It the same problems untill suddently, after like 5 formats, it was OK. At LAST! The day after, I had this problem again. (argh). I tried what the menual said. Set the USB mode to storage, the cable was UNconnected. I did a SYSTEM WRITE. Tured the FX off. Connected the cable, then turned it on. It worked perfectly.
So, there are few reasons for this strange problem (in case we had the same problem of course):
1. Even though I don't think so, maybe all those times we (me and you) didn't do what I said about the usb mode. I don't remember if it is a must to do a system write, turn off and then on, instead of just unpluging the cable, changing to storage mode, and then connnecting the cable..
2. We both had the newest version installed. Maybe the PC was confused somehow? Note that I didn't change a thing in the PC, like driver or something. It sounds strange that the PC will want time untill it will work ok with the Fantom, LOL.
3. Maybe the new versions really have a problem. These are two different versions. for FS and for FX. Though both are new, and Roland's.. It does work now, but I do have this problem once in a while. I didn't have it before changing to the 1.05 version. Maybe its a bit buggy or demanding a very specific usb-mode-change routine in order to work. (?)
These are my guesses. I really have no idea. I just back up the date every 10 minutes, lol.
Its strange and scary that your keyboard can actually have this problems. 1 year ago I didn't even dreamed about a keyboard's OS versions, data transfert to and from a PC, and memory problems, like computers have (I mean in good and bad meanings). Scary:P

hi all!
me too! With the old FX OS I got these Folder-Name-Problem as Kakaroto discribed. Updated to 2.0 everything was fine. Then: reinstalling my PC with WinXP SP2. At the time I installed the Fantom USB Driver windows don't starts anymore! *ARGH* After uninstalling the Fantom-USB Driver in safe-mode, windows starts but (of cause) no Fantom connection. Hm.
I'm using a very long USB Cable AND a PCI-USB 2.0 add-on-card.
However! This USB driver are not the best. Every other USB devices are working fine in my setup.
I just go and check all the things you posted in this thread ...*think* ... well ... see you in a week *lol* i'll report what will happen...
groove on,
alex

cant understand...
changing the USB cable from the 2.0-pci jack to the 1.1 on board jack ... EVERYTHING is fine! *confusing*
Another thing works, which dosen't work before: I can copy the hole pc-card to my pc. before it says something like "can't read".
in comparison with my old setup, I using the usb driver from the japanese ftp-server ... but its the same version number as the driver of the rolandus-site ... so I think this is not the important thing. All I really change, was the USB-port AND doing like you sad:
-do system write with the usb-setting needed
-turn Fantom off
-connect the cable
-turn it on
-tataaaa! it works
well. yeah. good luck everyone
