Fruityloops and my Xa
Fruityloops and my Xa
Okay I've read the manual.
I havent posted here in a long time because I'm trying to figure this stuff out by my self instead of bothering people.
But I cannot for the life of me get Fruityloops to talk to my Xa.
Does anyone use Fruityloops and Xa combo?
All my friends are telling me to stop using FL but I love it, so easy to use and understand.
This question is vague but i'm in over my head here.

What exactly cant you get to work?
I havent used fruity loops for a while, and I haven't used it with a fantom either (I've got an X not an XA anyway), but I have used it with other midi gear, such as drum machines and sound modules.
Make sure you have enable midi outputs ticked. I think thats is a item under the options menu. Also you need to specify a midi port to talk to the XA on. That should be under options midi setup (or something like that). There should be a list in there with all of your systems current midi devices. Assign a port number to the XA device. If you want to use it as a controller, I'm pretty there is an option to set it to the XA.
Now when trying to use the XA, use a midi controller (it similar to adding a sample controller, its found in the same menu too). Set the port on the controller to the same number as the XA, and choose the midi channel you want to talk to. BAM!! you are now talking to the XA!!
There is a bit more setup after this, like if you want to use CC and such, but setting that up is pretty self explanatory. If you get a controller box up found on the midi controller tool (like a knob or slider, I think you right or left click and select configure) and move the associated controller on the XA, fruity loops should automatically pick it up (if I'm rembering correctly
).
I hope that helps. Sorry if my explanation is a bit confusing.

Re: Fruityloops and my Xa
I am thinking of getting FL studio possibly in the future, heard it was really fun and it sounds great. I hope the FL works with the fantom. So FL IS that fun? sounds nice.
Re: Fruityloops and my Xa
FL is good. Its actually great.
I find it almost annoying how easy it is to make music that sounds relatively good with it. You can jump in there and just make music. This is why alot of people think its bad... it makes making music excessively easy. Its a trap though, I found that sometimes it took away my creativity (plus I bought the fantom and other gear) so I have stopped using it for the time being.
It does have some annoying limitations it terms of handling midi (ie, filter midi messages and send/receiving sys ex, etc). Using it as part of a bigger setup through its rewire capabilities is awesome.
Its definately worth its price.

Re: Fruityloops and my Xa
That sounds cool about the FL. Since I have the fantom X now, I'm not sure (and need to learn this) but afterwards. I wonder if the Fl would still be nice to have, maybe mastering, editing, or creating beats with it. Maybe it would not be really needed tho, I mean the fantom X does these things too.
But if I was to get some software program, FL looks like that would be for me. Just not sure if it is needed with a fantom X, what do you think?

Well yes and no,
It can be a step recorder, but it also can be more like a DAW and is increasley becoming more like full production software, similar to Cubase/Logic, with every new release.
It's a pretty cool program and is definately worth a look. The price is right to. Admittedly the FX and FL share a lot of similar features, but if used properly, they would happily play together and complement each other nicely :0).

I may then at some later date pick up FL for mastering a song , editing and putting some extra samples with it.
Frosted Flakes with the fantom sounds like a nice breakfast

So overall you would agree that is it a capable peice of software, yes?
I don't have the money for cubase and have used FL extensivly in demo forms in the past. I love it's GUI, easy.
I've never used itwith an externat device before and would like to learn more about it's connectivity abilities.
Problem is the FL studio forums are locked to registered users (people who've purchase FLStudio.) so i'm locked out..
it's crap, and the demo version I have is hard to get the Xa to talk to.
I can use the Xa to create an FL piano roll,
but i'm more interested in useing FL studio to control my Xa.
I find the Xa seq kind of clumbsy.
Don't get me wrong, i've learned ALOT about it in the last month, but i still find it less untuitive than a big full color 19inch GUI.
so really me question is, how is FL as a controller?

Re: Fruityloops and my Xa
Which version of FL do you have Orwell, the Fruity Loops edition or the Producer version?
Also, is there much of a difference between the two?
