Hi
I've got a second-hand XR that has still got the old Motherboard in hence I am getting bursts of white noise when changing some Patches, is it still possible to get a new Motherboard fitted bearing in mind I bought it second-hand ?
Thanks

Re: XR Motherboard
I guess you have to ask Roland or you dealer since Fantomized is not a comercial forum.

Re: XR Motherboard
I think you blew it. Roland doesn't have to replace the mo' board
since you are not the original owner.
But if you ask nice, maybe they will do it for free. It is a $500 repair job
Next time, do research before you buy. The mo'board issue was widely discussed here

Re: XR Motherboard
I got a second-hand XR on ebay. first I went through a local shop, but it was a bad experience.
Then I called Roland, and they didn't even asked where I got the XR and gave me RMA#.
So, I suggest you to call Roland, and if it doens't succeed in the first time, try few more times.

Just be careful of this, when I called up Roland and referred me to the workshop that replaces the motherboard, they were clear that I needed to bring with the board ORIGINAL documentation of the purchase.
So good luck!

Re: XR Motherboard
Hi Again
Sorry for this but I'm a bit confused.....I've been told by one music store that the version 2 operating system (that you can download from Roland US) cures the problem, and if I wanted the full V2 upgrade it will cost ?49 here in UK, what is the difference between the downloaded and full versions .
I can't find where to download it from, and if I do install it, will it cure the bursts of white noise??
Thanks.

Re: XR Motherboard
To MY knowledge this is whats going on;
You can download an OS upgrade from here;
http://www.rolandus.com/products/detail ... PageMode=4
NOTE: that it is V1.05, and Roland says it's their latest OS for the Fantom. This will not solve the white noise problem.
Downloading V2.0;
Can't be done.
Buying V2.0;
Will add all the listed features, will not solve the white noise problem.
Getting motherboard replaced;
Will fix the white noise problem, AND they will upgrade it to V2.0 for FREE!
The white noise problem is a HARDWARE problem and cannot be cured from SOFTWARE updates.
This is my understanding of it all, if i'm wrong on any point, please feel free to correct me as i'm sure you would.

Re: XR Motherboard
loop, I think lan is correct. You will still need to replace the mo' board. I strongly suggest you do that. In addition to solving the white noise, you will hear a nice improvment in ' head room. The various patches will sound more lively.
You have to be wary about some of these dudes that work in music stores. Some of them don't know their stuff. Or they are repeating bad info.
You can always call Roland and confirm the best fix.
