New Fantom Xa Owner Here !!! :-)

Post by jgore »

Hey guys

I just want to announce that I'm now a proud owner of a Fantom Xa.

I upgraded my old Korg 01/wfd to this one but sadly I have to let the 01 go. :(

Comparing the 01 (1992) to the Xa (2004) I made an improvement of 12 years. Yes, 12 years. That?s a lot.
And as if that were not enough just think that apart from making that huge improvement, I switched brands. So I have a double challenge here.

Needless to say I have NO CLUE the way this Xa works in terms of arquitecture, sound structure, patch (programs?), performances (combis?), etc whatsoever.

I have now to forget the old school Korg language to learn Roland's from scratch.

Will of course enjoy my stay in this wonderful site for the next upcoming months or even years.

Cheers !

Jgore :)

Hi, and congratulations. You have a great and exciting adventure in front of you.

Like you I traded up, but I did not switch brand as well. A few words of advice:

Read the manual. It is not the most exciting piece of literature ever written, but there is a lot of information in there.

Download the manual from Rolandus.com even if you have the paper one. The index in the paper version is of limited use compared to free text search in the PDF file.

There are instructional DVD's to be bought.

Check out the FAQ and remember that it is possible to search the forums for previous threads.

And lastly: Do not hesitate to ask if the above sources leave you stumped.

Bon Voyage!

I too am an old Korg man and am thinking of trading up to a Fantom-X7. I currently have an old Korg-T2 (76 keys) from which I am controlling a Roland JV-1080. I want some new sounds, and I find modules too difficult to navigate.

I figure that if I sell the T2, JV-1080 and a couple of other items, I can get the X7 for a net of $1,000. Then I will have all my sounds in one 76 key unit. I also want to get the Ultimate Keys sound card.

Like you I found the Korg very easy to navigate. If the Fantom is as easy to edit as the JV- 1080, you should have no problem.

I feel that the Xa is a great value, and if I didn't need 76 keys, I would have considered that keyboard. The sounds on Banks A-F are exactly the same in the X and Xa, and they use the same waveforms.

Hi jgore, I've had my Xa now for a week and have found these keyboards have really gotten technically complex but also improved. I've played a Korg DW8000 since 1989 and like yourself, decided it was time to upgrade. I just bought a DVD tutorial off of ebay. Here's a link to another tutorial DVD on the Xa for sale if your interested (hope the link works).
Good luck!

I have tried to email this seller to ask if he would sell to you. If not, maybe I can buy it for you and send it to you? You are PayPal verified? I don't have a DVD burner to make a copy. Let me know...

about this ebay seller, he sent me an email stressing that he absolutely would not ship out of the country. I guess he doesn't want to go through the extra work in filling out postal forms.
I have found out from my local USPS office it would cost $6.05 USD to send this to Argentina Air mail 4/7 days. If you would like, I could bid on this ebay auction and if successful the cost would be $21.05 USD ($10.00 item; $5.00 shipping to me; $6.05 shipping to you). If I don't win, I'll try to find someone with a DVD burner to make a copy of the one I'm getting. The total cost would be cheaper than the $29.99 Roland sells it for.
I can't understand why this guy can't bend his "rules" and send this to you. I've sold off of ebay to all over the World.
Let me know what you decide - glad to help a fellow musician.

Yeah, I contacted this seller and he won't ship to me ggggrrrrr :(.

Actually your idea is very cool. I'm paypal verified , indeed, I just bought a Kingston 512mb PC133 RAM for my fantom xa from ebay and am waiting to arrive to my door during the next week.

It's very kind from you to help me this way. I appreciate that. Definatly its a good Idea since CUSTOMFIX (a website that sells dvds) charges an incredible "USD 25" to ship to argentina. !

I give you green light to bid on that dvd. Hope you win it.

If you wish to contact me my paypal email is javiergore@yahoo.com.

Thanks a bunch !

I will bid on this DVD - if by chance I get out-bidded, I found a friend here that will copy my DVD set. Glad to help, my email address will be on the ebay auction page under current bidder (thoseforbes).

Cool

Thanks man.

If you decide to go with the dvd copy, please try to get a 9.4 GB dvd in order not to deal with quality loss as with the 4.7 gb one.

I'll pay the dvd-r cost if needed.

Thanks
