Those lit up pads

Post by Barry »

How do you turn off or lower the lights behind the pads. I shall be working in an orchesrta pit with the rest of the band and those pads are throwing out toooooo much light.

I don't think you can adjust that from any menu. At least I can't remember seeing that in the manual. Maybe you should try covering the pads with duct tape or something similar. I know its not a good solution, maybe someone has a better suggestion.

There are a couple workarounds for this, but all of them assume you won't need the pads.

1) Assign each pad to an empty Pattern in the RPS setup and turn on RPS (this will turn off and disable the pads).
2) Assign each pad to a Rhythm Pattern and turn on Rhythm Patterns.
3) Assign each pad to a Chord or Arpeggio (OS 2.0 only) and turn on the Chord or Arpeggio function.

Now, if you need to use the pads, consider a "high tech" solution such as taping a thin, dark cloth over the pads. :-)

its a shame! because the Pads are the most beautiful part of a fantom X along with the screen:D.

I too was wondering if there was a way to turn off the LED's behind those pads, as useful as they are they look way too flashy and throw out way too much light; I think the S/X would have a classier look if the LED's were only active during "hold" modes, while I doubt they will ever add an OS update that adds a dynamic pad light setting option I think it would be a nice option for those of us that do not want so many active LED's on our boards.

another HI-tech solution:

1)Take the door of any standard audio CD case with an inlay card and just drop it over the pads. (sorted!)

2) same solution only this time use a piece of tape (be artistic) and make a flexable hinge to tape the case to the fantom (along the top of the cd case)
now you can just Flip! the lip up to use the pads and down to cover those nasty lights.
If you can get a smoked coloured or dark coloured case you wont need the inlay card.
(and just as it happens, a cd door is the same dimensions as the DYNAMIC PAD BANK)

Results not Excuses

It is so nice to see that the combined power of the world of Roly enthusiasts have come up with a solution to the high output of light from those pads. Ahh the producers of Blue Peter would be proud of you guys. " for the rest of the world Blue Peter was a kids programme in UK renoun for making wonderfull items of use out of plastic bottles and pieces of card". Thanks for your help I now feel part of the team.

Other workaround in performance/mixer mode: press the mute knob, the LED's will be off when you unmute all channels :)

tcplugin, good point but that means Barry can't ever play in Patch mode and thus misses out of the Fantom Power in Patch mode. I reckon Quinx nailed the problem (!!!!Emphasis not anger)

This isn't a solution, but if you center a cd over the pads, it looks like a really phat crosshairs pattern. :)
