I agree with you about being able to tweak the fantom drums. I'm making some really nice vibes out of my drum tracks lately. They kick nice and the hi end is crystal clear. Plus that phono effect can give you super grit on the tracks.

Dang, it's been a while since I posted and it looks like we gotta a few heads on here still. You want industry drums, make industry drums. I have a Fantom-S88, not even the new Fantoms, and i can still make about eight unique waveforms off of each drum hit in the Fantom's Kits. You don't buy a synthesizer to use the presets, you gotta synthesize, that's why it's called a synthesizer. You can go beyond the realtime controls but adjusting individual envelopes and filters and do some crazy shyte with your drum waveforms. Artemio made a tweakbook last year with lots of helpful info on how to access those functions to modify sounds. Most preset drum kits on most synths are average at best, you gotta modify them to get your sound. I assume a few of you have MPCs and are familiar with filtering and modifying drum sounds. Apply the same techniques to your Fantom.

peace

PS. Hip-Hop is not what it is today.

I too have sampled alot of kicks and snares from vinyl. Thats hip hop, i've tried modifying the kits on the board but its not the same.... Maybe im not doing it right but it was much easier on the MPC....

Fantom drums and basses

Post by 5 »

Man guys I have to say that you can make the drums sound real nasty on anything it's about mastering your weapon/tool... If you can't make dirty drums and thick basses on the fantom then you prob. are just not trying hard enough or just aren't meant to... Try using lo fi effects and modifining cut off freq. that will get you started but you just got work at it.... I have had my fantom x6 for about 11months now and haven't gone outside of the factory sounds too many times (3x) and have made many tracks and had pple ask were I am getting my sounds from... Inovate/create and express.......

when I think of south and "king of the south" and all that....I can't think of anybody but the dungeon family.....they are what put southern rap on and they seem to be the only group of notable artists that have more than dollar signs on their minds. OutKast, Goodie Mob, Witch Doctor, Cool Breeze....those guys have talent for sure....however all you hear from the south is "knuck if you buck" and other ignorant garbage. And then most of the fans of that will hate on outkast and goodie mob.....which is even more ignorant to bite the hand that fed the area opportunity.

and just on a 2pac tip, I'd value his lyrics more if I didn't hear the same lyrics on three different songs and such. I mean, yeah, great you made a million songs, but when I hear the same line a bunch of different times, it's no addes value....however, I know that suge had a lot to do with that.

While 2pac was very good, I can't just say automatically that he was better than biggie, Big L, Pun, or Rakim.

He's definitely with those 4 guys though, for sure. It's all subjective though. It depends on what you value.
