Post by d_beatz »

Well I see people suggesting a dozen of ways to connect the fantom x6 to protools Le But im new to pro tools and its all like Giberish to me. I was wondering can someone be kind enough to give me EXACT instructions on how to do so.

in pro tools, make a stereo track.

hook the fantom's 1 and 2 output to your interface's 1 and 2 input. make sure you have both your inputs set to "line". Hit the record button so you can see where the levels are. press play on the fantom so you can adjust your input to the track. Hit record/play on pro tools, then play on the fantom and you should be recording audio.

Make sure your tracks have the correct input assigned, and make sure the 'R' button is highlighted in both tracks.

edit:

Not very exact, huh? ;) Use the window which looks like a mixing board (not the main window). The input assign is the top button underneath the effects and inserts area, I believe, and the 'R' is below it along with 'M' and 'S' (I think). Unfortunately I don't have a copy here, but tonight I'll take a look and see if any of the above locations are incorrect.

ok, at least we have the same version.

By interface, I mean are you using the mbox, digi001, digi002, etc....?

you know, the piece of hardware that came with your software.

then all you need to do is run the audio outs from the fantom to the ins of the mbox. left goes on the bottom insert and right goes on the top insert. make sure you have your inputs switched to lin on the front and then hit record. If that doesn't work, then you might have something wrong with your playback engine in protools.

s/pdif/mbox/playback engine? -

Post by gtrdude »

I'm in the middle of taking s/pdif from my X6 into PT LE. The input level is VERY very low - far less than a typical mic/line 1 input like guitar or mic usually is. It doesn't clip - it stays in the lower 1/4 of the fader. I selected s/pdif in hardware settings and that was all I did. Advice from the trenches?
