Arpeggios and Rythm

Post by kat »

Hello,

I just bought a fantom XR and i have some issues with Apregios and Rythms. As far as i understood, what they are supposed to do, it works like that:

- When i'm in SONAR, in performance mode, i can select a patch and play, (that works fine)
- Then i can push the ARP button on the fantom and if i select ARP (push the value button), the next time i hit a key, it soud play the sound in question with the arpegio style that is selected, yes?

well, it plays no arpeggio at all, just the standard sound ... same with rythm, when i turn on rythm in the ARP menu, then i hit a key on the keyboard, and no rythm plays.

BTW, i have selected TEMP/Synch to be Slave from sonar.

What i am doing wrong?
Can anyone help?

Regards,
Katja

Check page 100-103 of the manual. Appregios are handled by specific midi control channel and require unique settings.

Hi,

thanks for your reply, but what exactly am i missing?

I have a Arpegio channel set to 16 ... so?

I have a the track in Sonar is on channel 1, (sound of the piano) i have tried opening a channel 16 track in sonar with the same piano patch (i have also tried with no patch) then i am sure that if anything would be sent to it and play on it that i would hear it, but i still don't hwar any arpegio, and i don't understand what's wrong ... In my performance listing, i have a piano sound on channel 1 and 16 and a rythm patch on channel 10 ...

Also it says in the manual that i am supposed to be hearing the arpegio style by pushing the OUtput button when i am in the apregio menu selecting the pattern. Well sorry but i hear nothing...

Same with rythm. My rythm channel is 10, i have a track channel 10 opened in sonar, tried with and without rythm set patch, no sound from there ....

I am sure it's some parameter that is set wrong, but i cannot figure out which one? Anybody can help?

Thanks,
Katja

arps in sonar

Post by gspeed »

hi there kat, i think i can help you
i use cubase se, but i know how to get arps happening in midi

hit menu on your fantom, then system, then scroll down to sync/tempo and heres where you need to have sync mode changed from master to SLAVE-MIDI this is where an arp will play with the chosen tempo in your sequencer(sonar) and lock to it. You must change it back to MASTER whenever you want to use the fantomon its own (ie not hooked up to your pc) then hit play in your sequencer, hold down some notes, and hopefully you'll have some kick ass arps playing away they really add alot to sequences i think...and so easy to play

cheers kat, hope i have been some help to you

Hi there,

it's already the case, my System/Synch/Tempo parameter called Sync Mode is set to slave and the tempo is set to [note]=Midi, then i have tempo override= OFF (tried with on but it doesn't change anything).

Any other idea?

Hi again,

just for the record, i actually found the answer while experimenting:

- Sonar need to have INTERNAL CLOCK turned on (that's in Option/Project /Sync

- And of course (on the same screen) you need to select the fantom XR in the MIDI Sync output ports.

There we go, now arpegios and rythm work wonderfully.
