midi note echo prob fantomx

Post by QuinnX »

im trying to using external midi equiment to record to the fantom x sequncer with standard midi cables.

problem is when i hit a note localy on the external keyboard it is resent by the fantom so im getting a double note and half second later it sounds awful.

is there some way to stop the fantom from resending.
the only way sofar i have found is to turn local keyboard off in the fantom
but this funtion is way down in the system menu some where and is not convienent to start wading trough menus when doing a performance.
turning local off then turns off the keyboard of the fantom so thats no good.
if one of the assign buttons could be assined to this it would help but its not an option i can select.

help!

a) switch local off in the Fantom
or
b) switch soft trought off in the external midi recording device

1) as stated above local off on the fantom is not accessable directly and if im in the middle of a recording it takes at least 20 seconds to
do this and thats alot of time im not playing and then when i want to play ont he fantom i have to do it al over again because turning loacal off ont he fantom stops you from play the keyboard.

2) the exteranal device is an instrument not a recording device.

its the fantom that is recording...

according to all information this is controled by soft thru option in the keyboard or sequenser and should be set to OFF.

i have checked the fantom
its surprise!
its already set to off
so its not doing its job

i did a factory reset
im not sure if its cured it
im still testing...

Seeing that the MIDI information from the external device is looping back thru the Fantom ... another option might be to turn LOCAL OFF on the external device.

For further reference, it might be helpful to let us know what specific external MIDI device you are using. Someone may have (or may have had) a similar setup, and could be more intimately familiar with the problem, and therefore the solution.

nope!
acording to its own Fantomx manual
all midi signals recieved by any external device are re-transmited back to midi out
unchanged
and the way to stop this is to set soft midi thru to OFF.

so its not the external device.
but so far after doing the factory reset and seting midi thru OFF again,
I dont seem to have the problem....
Hmmmm....

QuinnX:

I was suggesting an alternate solution, which given the details you offered, would have almost certainly have worked as well.

I'm glad all is well for you now.
