Frankly, I'm starting to wonder what's up myself ...
... as it's just odd that so many people would have a problem with the Piano sound.
My Fantom X6 sounds gorgeous ... simply gorgeous ... piano, strings, whatever ... it's just a GREAT sounding instrument all the way around.
I'm saying this as someone who has owned quite a few keyboards and synths, and I over 25 years of experience. I'd submit that I have some idea what I am talking about.
Is it possible that some Fantoms are defective in some weird way?

Dansgold... I must say I'm a bit perplexed too... you would expect a few "it's not as good as I thought it would be" posts... but every negative post absolutely slams the Fantom... most strange.
pastorK... how does te piano sound to you on headphones?
http://www.drstudio.demon.co.uk/"Some musicians have a physical block, some have a mental block, while others have a wooden block". Unfortunately, I'm in the 1st category!

thank you fo standing up
i dont know what to do about this crappy sounding piano myself..has anyone asked roland?
i called roland support and they
never heard this before so they are logging into this forum to check things out..i cant even play the piano as it sound so thin
Your thin sounding Fantom ! ???
I have a fantom X6 for a month now and I think it is probably one of the most powerful synths I have never used ! I use 19 different synths but the X6 is just perfect in any field, from realistic to synthetic sounds. And the piano are just GREAT !. Probably, you are familiar with your T12 sounds for years ,but the pianos on the Fantom X'series are absolutely brilliant !

no comparison here
i have a yamaha p200 and the X8 plugged in thru the same system and i played them for the roland rep in LA and he could not explaing the difference in sound other than to take it back to the music store and have them check it out

I think the Ultimate piano patch is kind thin also, but the Concert Grand (PR-F in my XR) patch is much better. Have you compared the two?

Thin Fantom
I wondering whats up tooo...because at guitar center, which is not where I bought it, the whole reason I ordereded the phantom was because of how great the piano sounded compared to the KORG.... so NO I am not slamming the roland, I'm wondering what is up... I do not believe it's my audio setup as the TS-12 sounds loud and full... This X7, the one in my possession sounds like a CASIO..
Maybe it has to do with those balanced outputs, I don't know... but right now I'm very unimpressed with this board that is in my house....
Also whats with that occasional noise between patch selects...And the delay between selecting patches... for live performance that is a bit annoying....

Maybe you are on too much dope.
Or your hearing is impaired.
Or you are just used to that 'cling-clang-thang' piano sound too much that anything else is a "toy" to you.
Or maybe you hate Jazz music.(Ultimate Grand is Jazz Piano)
Or don't you think you could edit the patch to the level you want?

i have an XV2020 as well
and the piano sound 1 on that is horrid..the fantom sounds no better and this
a jazz pianist would not be in this forum
acoutic baby which is what i am trying to emulate and it isnt happening...also the millisecond delay is annoying in any digital instrument..i just wish everyone would tone down how great this piano and board is because it is just OK..nice acoustic guitars..harmonica..strings are Ok...but the brass, organs and clavs suck as well...a board full of gimmicks and if you are conputer based? what do you need this for?
hmm...
yea i dont get it either...i have a Fantom XR hooked up to my M- audio delta 66 card in my PC, and im using M-audio moniters, and the piano sounds GREAT!?!? i mean everything on this XR sounds like a million bucks!!! its just different tastes in sound i guess...
the middle register is dead
period and if you guys cant hear it you do not play the piano..now try the organs and the clavs
