Connecting X6 to iPad Air 3

Post by gdh »

Anyone using their Fantom X to connect to the new iPad Air 3’s? I tried using the Edirol UM -1SX that I had used with iMacs and Windows (incl 10) but nothing with the USB to Camera 3 and this new iPad.

Well got the UM-1SX working but have quite a bit of note dropouts using GarageBand’s Brass Ensemble. The issue was I needed to plug the power into the adapter without it couldn’t power the UM. More research to do to rid the dropouts. I am hoping to bring the iPad loaded with Heavy Brass, iSymphony and Galileo using either the X6 as controller.

Seems only to drop notes when in Performance mode where. If select ie. Symphonica patch and GBand Brass Ensemble there are no notes dropping. I have read that this can be an issue using GBand - have had it for 15 yrs just never used it on my Macs before. I will likely get AUM and then see how Heavy Brass, Galileo & iSymphony make out along with some Performances on the X6.

Must be a polyphony issue with the X6 performances that I setup and the the iPad strings/orchestra/brass ensemble patches. The ep’s, organ, basses are fine. Will just have to scale back on the Performances that I setup. Waiting for IOS 13 to arrive as I understand it will impact some of the IOS music apps so I have only added a few apps that were free (Viking & Synth One). I am liking much of what I hear with many of the IOS apps so much so that I’ll be selling 2 JD990’s (Keys & Vintage cards), JO8080 (maybe) and pick up either a Mojo 61, Legend Solo or Sk1. Using the clonewheel and iPad for jam sessions. I’ll keep the X6 and Juno 60 to go with the clonewheel.
A/B’d the Mojo 61/Sk1/VR730 last week in a music store. I ranked the Mojo 1st, Sk1 2nd and VR 730 3rd.

Bought new higher quality heavier duty cables (1/8 to 1/4’s mono) fixed all issues. The cables I had were cheap hosa ones that I’d had for quite a few years. Will still likely buy an audio midi interface once I pick up either a Roli or K Board Pro 4. The 2 JD 990’s, JP 8080 and Radias are not long for the studio. 90% of my commercial work is using East West, Omnisphere etc with the Mini D, Juno 60 and Prophet 08 making guest appearances. I’ll keep the X6 for awhile until a Mojo 61 or Legend Solo becomes available.
