Go West Sound - I need your help guys

Post by daztickle »

I need to get the lead sound from the Go West track "we close our eyes".

I met the band last year and he said the sound was made using a PPG wave so if anyone has the ppg soft synth and knows this track i would be eternally grateful if they could come up with something, it sounds quite saw brass'y but my attempts so far just dont cut it.

Yep... it sounds like there are quite some PPG Sounds in that track. Anyway, this particular sound rather seems to me like a stack of more than one synthesizer/sampler sounds, what makes the components a bit hard to detect. While the middle frequency part rather sound like a brass sample, the PPG seems to be responsible for the more aggressive amount of high frequencies and to add a little live to the mostly shortly after the attack looped 80s samples. Also important part for the character seems to be a third sound, maybe a DX7 played in portamento mode, since I hear a slight pitching in one of the components. I as well think to detect that "du" Voice part, that you can hear slightly louder, when played as chord alone, to accompany the lead melody.

Hope that helps a bit!

your ears are obviously more educated than mine, i have managed to program sample the sound.
I sampled the combi brass sound off my old korg x3, and downloaded the ppg softsynth, and sampled a sound off that, then did what i think they did in the studio played the combined sound one one note in 3 octaves simultaneously and sampled that, and hey presto huge lead saw synth, thanks for all your help summa
