OK... here is my take on all of this..

I don't think there is a DELAY in switching the patches, because when you turn off the effects, you don't hear a delay.

What Fantom does is MUTE the MFX processors for some time to let them change when you change a patch. That's why sometimes you do hear a crackle and sometimes just a mute.. It depends on what MFX is being changed to what MFX. If you have a reverb and change to distortion you are going to hear the reverb tail being distorted. It also depends where the signal is at the time you change the patch.

I think that even though it's a samll issue by itself, if Roland is replacing the mainboard, there are probably other things too that are under the hood... and again there might new issues with the new board.. you never know, for every new solution, there are new problems.

--------------------
Remember that there are only 3 MFX + 1 Reverb + 1 Chorus in Fantom-S/X and you have to share them across 16 parts (patches) in a song.

Hi Nathan!

I've tried on numerous occasions to send you my .wav file to your email address as an attachment but the email has been returned to me. I'm really sorry but I haven't had this problem before. Any more ideas? I suppose at least you now know that it is definitely a hardware issue as I said in my original message.
Just to clarify, I was experiencing a very loud noise when changing patches and there was a very unnacceptable delay when changing patches in favourite and live setting mode. The delay for my needs is now insignificant after the replacement of the motherboard and there is no noise whatsoever when changing patches - much better for live playing!! I noticed that the patch delay test revealed that my delay is less noticeable than the files you have made available for listening on this site.

All the best!

@Shakil

You'r right. There's no delay between patches when the effects are disabled. But the comlaints are about the delay when the effects are enabled (as I said the delay in Triton Extreme, and as we saw the delay in FS and repaired FX in much less).

Also, maybe there is some bigger problems with the mainboard that they are replacing them, not just the delay and the noise. But I wish they don't ADD any more problems like v1.03 !

@Fanoftom

Would you try my email address? Maybe you are doing something wrong. I will try to forward that to Nathan.

(I am getting 90 junk mails each day so I'm not worried about writing my address this way!!)

Yes, thank you very much guys. I've also put fanoftom's file online at

http://www.nathansheldon.com/fantom-x8/ ... 01061H.wav

I checked the delay times with fanoftom's Fantom just to see if it fell in line with other tests posted. The data are as follows...

Change 1: 228 ms
Change 1: 225 ms
Change 2: 227 ms
Change 3: 226 ms
Change 4: 226 ms

Thanks, Sam, for forwarding it to me.

This seems closer to the one Fantom-S61 posted and lends credence to Watermelon's assertion that more Fantoms should be tested. This recording from fanoftom still has faster Patch changes than the older Fantom-X8s with OS 1.01 and 1.03.

Watermelon: No need to stop posting in this thread. I'm sure we all appreciate your participation. Yes, I too have a background in science and work at a university (no, not as a professor, as staff). Your input is helpful.

Its interesting that the delay is either very close to 22x ms or ranges from 118 to 330 within each machine. We need more samples to keep the statisticians in this thread happy :)

Hi Sami.

Yea, we really do need more samples. I think I'll still take my Fantom-X8 in soon to have the main board replaced even though the tests were not fully conclusive. Better to get new hardware than to wait until the warranty runs out and be disappointed. :-)
