Hi ,
Let me just say that, like others, I don't quite understand why QuinnX is so mad about this issue -but that's just me feeling quite happy about my X7.

To Artemio I just say that I can't be more on your side. I've seen this happen on other Forums. I belive that as I don't let everybody come into my house to say what they want you cannot aloud everybody to say what they want and be unrespectable to others. After all you are just sharing info. and experience.

A couple of points i disagree with you ftm:

The meaning of a statement, is not the statement itself but the interpretation of it.
Of course there are obvious examples in which it should be banned.("user xxxxx you are a motherf......, etc"), but their are statements that are not so obvious in their meaning.

I believe that thanks to artemios skills, and views, we all enjoy this great site, but i also believe that (and thanks to the success of the site) since its a major forum worldwide, (for a major worldwide product), the content can only banned or not by users themselves (simply by reading or not, a user or thread). Of course you have to lay a couple of basic rules for user coexistence. But may each user agree (or not) upon each topic.
The best judge is the community itself (of course when i say "judge" it doesnt mean that the comunity is right or wrong, it means that it autoregulates itself, for the best interest of THAT PARTICULAR community).

Becasue its a deliberate act of stupidity! or else roland is using lazy programers that should be either shot or fired for the bad implemetation of a file system on such an expensive and professional piece of equipment.
It has ramifications beyond the scope it has been discussed here which people will find out in the future when they hit that barrier and then it will be too late to complain because its old technolgy and sure everyone will then be using the latest and greatest with there new flaws and bad file system to boot.

The trouble with new toys, is its easy to become in aw of something new and only see it through rose coloured glasses.
eventualy your glases break and you finaly see the cracks.
by that time its too late and your still buying faulty Beta products because the manufacture has not been presured enough to make change.

I just wanted to understand that I deleted their posts because they were of no real to this forum which I am responsible for, simply because they were using swear words and showing disrespect to each other... Artemio, that was exactly what I tried to point out - I think I was misunderstood. The other side of participating in forums is that we usually "get out of the track". That's why I think that there are some rules to be followed and that doesn't mean that a forum's responsible like you is a "dictator". There's no sense in beginning a thread with a certain issue to end up (after 4 pages) questioning if something should or should not be deleted, if someone should or not make certain statements or wherethere we need to use a "universal translator". Things should be clear and straightforward. Personally I must disagree with QuinnX attitude. He says "I don't think anyone in this topic has been unrespectable" but he begins his post with "or else Roland is using lazy programmers that should be either shot or fired".Well, I can't take this personal ´cause I'm not a Roland employee. I'm just a Roland user/fan but I think this is the kind of statement that I feel absolutely unnecessary and of no use to help us or solve QuinnX own Fantom problems.
To finish "getting out of the track" this will be my last post on this thread - "but that's just me feeling quite happy about my X7".

Hi Artemio.

Don't apologize. I've been involved in the Internet world for many years (about 10 now) and themed forums such as this one need moderation (yes, censoring). The stated definition of the General Discussion forum is to discuss all things related to the Fantom. Posts that veer very far off topic are a waste of database space and bandwidth. If people want to express their unabridged opinion on the sexual activities of someone they have never met, they can do it on their own web page (and be responsible for the libel law suit at the same time).

People, this is a public forum, not a private conversation. Public forums and their content can be viewed by anyone and libelous statements against another can put Artemio (and the original person posing the information) in a precarious legal bind. Be civil. Observe "netiquette" (Internet etiquette). Think of posts like a delayed television broadcast, not a private conversation.

Artemio: good job! If you hadn't deleted the posts, I'm sure I would have! Anyone not liking it can post their unproductive opinions elsewhere.

This is not disrespectfull its a statement of FACT
if someone is not doing there job they should be fired or made to do it right.
If your happy with how you use your fantom then you just havent got to the point where you find it restrictive.
as i said in my previous post, the cracks will show eventualy and unless you have complained about it you can be sure that the next release will be the same.
anything i have posted is based on clear FACTS! and experience and have back it up with other facts.
It not fiction its fact, if other people dont see it in the light i have presented it, then they obviously dont see it as a problem (yet!)
In this case im probably using alot more foresight than people can handle, going beyond the surface of the problem and too the future.
But if people are happy to solve any problems encountered by going out and buying the next generation of product just to resolve a software problem, well good for them, i suppose there are some people that have more money than sence and accept the current state of infirier production methods and blindly keep pumping money in to corporations who`s sole intention is to do what makes money and the customer satisfaction is only a fraction or enough to sell the product and it seems they done that part any way..
so people say LIVE WITH IT
i say why!?
if something is wrong with a product its wrong
Acceptance is futile and none productive and there is no benifit in accepting inferior production and/or programming methods.
by doing so your dictating a future of products with even more ineficiencies and BUG and new technology becoming old technology sooner than it should be just because the issues where not addressed in the first place.

QuinnX: next time when you will be purchasing a workstation, examine the specs more carefully. It is not Roland's mistake that the feature you need is not there, it is your mistake that you didn't check for this feature before purchasing. Many of us live with this, simply because nothing is perfect, and simply because we enjoy the rest of great features of our boards. Just try to follow the suggestions I gave you - this is the way I work, and I feel quite comfortable.

While I do appreciate your anger at this issue, and the fact the you have already run into a restrctive convention in the Fantom's architecture, your remarks are still characterized by invectiveness.

I is an arguable opinion that your lazy programmers remark was disrespectful. It is a violation of several conventions of the rules of logic to label your conclusion as a fact. Your further supporting remarks leave an even wider gap in the logical paradigm.

I appreciate and respect your intensity and the passion with which you feel these issues. I am quite surprised at the incongruity between your dissatisfaction and and associated lack of research. Without further facts and observation of your process, I could do no more than assume that you did not research your purchase well enough to suit your needs. But I could never claim it as fact without coming much closer to walking in your shoes. Which highlights the point that you are assuming more knowledge about Roland's design processes and their employees work habits than you can reasonably support.

And while we thank you for your universal translator, each and every human being has an inalienable right to take you or me as they see it. Whether or not there is a misunderstanding will be a function of both parties. No table of your personal stylisms and idioms will put that responsibility squarely on someone elses shoulders. Your pattern throughout this entire conversation has been one of saying that you are basically correct, and everyone else is wrong. That does not stand the test of real life communication and experience. That is simply not the way that life works.

Im saying nothing of the sort..
What I am trying to emphasize and maintain is..

LOGIC! has an undeniable conclusion which cannot be broken, and since programming follows a strict logical process then the fact that the file system has been programmed in the manner it has been is a deliberate act since you must take logical steps to reach this conclusion in programming you need methodical process in order to complete it.
once it is done, your intent has been made clear.
so what i am saying is the programmers are wrong!
What everyone else is saying is they have yet to understand why!? this is wrong.
if at any stage anyone accepts it is wrong then we can say it should be done better or should be fixed.
However if you have not found it to be an inconvenience then obviously you don?t understand the value of this mistake in its entirety.

I like the way people find it very easy to blame lack of research for my dissadisfaction, apart from the fact that this is an assumption, I and ask you??
how exactly do you find out the flaws in something before taking it into the real world and using it in the method it is intended.
Exacaly how many variables do you think one can imagine and check on a new piece of hardware when the only imidiate information is the specs and everything after that is a long learning curve which it is only during this process you actualy find out what the device can and cannot do?
and dont for one momment suggest the internet, because all reviewers do these days is publish the press releases which have been publish by roland or whatever company it is reviewing and as far as user review go, your relying on there extensive use and there objective conclusions which will not always cover the points you may find relevent.


I will conclude by saying the fantom does what i would like it do and maybe more, except when when it comes to file management which is a BIG headache for me.

what is this???. Who can dictate what is a productive or unproductive statement anyway?. Actually if id follow your guide line for moderating a forum, i would censor your statement. But again, I WOULD NEVER DO SO.I believe that its responsibility of each user.
Do you think as moderator that its racional to ask other user to post somewhere else?. (using as a standard YOUR judgment of what should or not should be said?)

AND HERE WE GO AGAIN: Artemio can do whatever he wants with this forum (he created it). But my advice was not to delete posts, because their is a very abstract (and subjective) line between what is right and wrong.

What we have here ia a forum trying to sell out to the man. I do believe, however, that the statement about cursing is correct...and I will try to watch mine in future posts ! I dont believe that Quinn is mad myself after reading his statements, I just feel like a forum should have the good as well as the bad...NOTE TO ALL USERS: The fantom x is not perfect, in fact it is far from it. It is, however a nice tool...that has travelled a nice distance over into the realm of 1999 technology for a change so lets give roland a hand(applause)...and lets get back to the drawing board and make an even better workstation and kill this one off like you do all the others:P...I have been a Roland user since 1983...THEY KILL PRODUCT, THE SUPPORT IS MINIMUM, AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES ARE BORROWED FROM OTHER ROLAND PRODUCTS...there will probably not be a new product that is a DO IT ALL...but it is good to dream. If you want a machine to do the whole job grab an apple imac and logic 7 and a midi controller. If we pray we might be lucky and Roland will make a STABLE OS RELEASE....until then just be prepared because theres a whole bunch of shoulda, woulda, couldas on the Fantom X..

I have spoken to roland and have explaid the coplexity of the problem and the limitations it will ulimitly result in,

they agree its seems to be an oversight and have compiled a report on what i have detailed and will forward it to the R&D dpt, however they would like other people to also show there support for improvement to include:

ability to reference individual sample per song

ability to save more than one back up per card


so make your voice heared and contact them..
