Best Sound Expansion Sets

Post by TDeL2 »

Hey folks,

I am looking to get some new sounds/patches for my Roland X8, but the SRX boards are ridiculously expensive. Are there any other affordable sound libraries that are good or recommended? I hesitate a little bit go with something other than the SRX boards because they are an official Roland product and I feel that the sound on other libraries might not be as good.

I've seen that Sinevibes has the complete set for $59. Are there any other recommendations anyone has? Thanks!

The Sinevibes set is very good value for money, 5 banks of sounds/samples and Ver.5 of the Tweek book can't be beaten on price.
Now, here comes the tough bit, and it all depends on the type of sounds that you want.
For me (and this is just my personal opinion) it was not a good buy, far from it as I use Rock type sound, and standard synth sounds. BUT..., if you are into Dance and Trance type sounds and such like of that ilk, then it will be right up your street.
The sounds themself's are very well programed, and show what the Fantom X can do with a little time and knowlage.
Would anybody else on this forum like to give there inpressions of the Sinevibes sound sets so other can make an informed decission before paying out there money?.

Hi,

I got the Sinevibes set a while ago and can only agree with Plank on this one. It is biased toward trance/dance/house for sure (which suits my needs quite well).

IMHO, it was 59 usd well spent. I tried to find other patches/banks on the internet, but they are far between (are there any at all??).

The Sinevibes sounds are well made and shows quite good what the X is capable of.

regards

I have several of the Sinevibes sets, and as everyone has already said they are pads, leads, basses designed for electronic music. If you want "real" instruments they're probably not for you. However, they do show what the Fantom X is capable of and most importantly they sound great!

If you want new "real" instruments have you tried the XV-5080 patches that are available in the library at the main Clan site.

Regards
Andy

Thanks! I downloaded the zip file to my computer. Any insight on how one actually loads the files into the X8? Do I just hook up a USB?

Ok, I figured out how to load the sounds into the keyboard. But I have another question. Since the XV-5080 patches are only able to be transferred in via the Library software (and can't be loaded to the card), will I lose all of my user patches if I load the XV-5080 patches in?

I haven't really tweaked any of the user patches at all, so they are the same ones that were there out of the box. Are those user patches found elsewhere in the Preset Patches, or if I overwrite them with XV-Patches will they be gone forever?

Finally, are the Sinevibes sets able to be loaded into the Card area or only User?

Use the Library prog to back up your internal sound, then load then new ones to try out.
When you find ones you like, make a note of them, reload the prog with your sounds and overwright the ones you do not like, with the new ones you do like and send the whole bank to the Fantom.
Or make a new bank out of the ones you like, send them to the fantom and then copy the .snd file to the card, and the reload your sounds from the prog to the fantom internal memory.
All the Sinevibes sets can beloaded to the inernal or card memory.

Quick question on the SRX-07 ultimate keys. I've noticed that some cards have Ultimate Keys printed on the front. And others simply have Srx-07 running up the side. Also...some descriptions list 300 patches...where others list 475. Are there two different versions of this card?

No, just the one and only SRX-07.

You can demo all the SRX cards at http://www.rolandus.com/flash/demos/srx/srx_demo.html and official specs.
