Record Snyc-ing with Cubase n Fantom help pls

Post by pirell »

hey guys, im a bit confused how to get my midi recording in cubase SX to trigger the FS and sync the recording to make things easier for me, when i want to transfer midi from the FS sequencer to cubase.

at the moment, i have to start my sequencer 1st then press play on the fantom. then i'd have to drag the missed bar midi files in cubase back to where they shd be. not a tiresome or difficult process, but im sure theres a way to do this with ease. thanks as you help a newbie :)

Do you have the song sequenced on the fantom or are you trying to make one on cubases sequencer?

if on the fantom all ready save as a midi file, when asked what kinda of midi (0 or 1) selected 1 (i believe, will save all tracks individually in one file) copy over to the pc through usb. import .mid file, there you have everything sequenced, and ready to copy paste sections in feed be.

cubase as sequencer go into the device setup i think it midi or something to that nature, set sync to exteral and MTC enable the midi port you want to use. set fantom to tx (transmit) MTC, and now you should be able to start and stop cubase from the fantom. ( I am goin off memory right now cause i'm not in front of my pc, i'm at my J O B)

hmm, thanks man, ill try that, i already have the song created/sequenced on fantom, i just wanted to transfer it to cubase so i can tweak it some more and convert/mix down the track into audio. so it seems i can just save the whole song and import as midi into cubase? will it also arrange them onto the set channels n instruments? bcos i dont just want the whole song, but the individual channels too. thanks

am i making sense??!!lol

Yeah you make since, because i wanted the same thing. when i dump my midi sequence (tx) it is imported with the same track parameters as it was on the fantom. what i do is solo a track or two (depending on how you want to do it), arm an audio track (this is also solo'd with the midi track) press record in cubase, and record the loop of 8 or 16 bars, until all tha tracks are converted to audio. (all solo'ing is do in cubase not on the fantom). i do it this way so i can use the automation in cubase for volume change, drop outs, plugins (eventhough the fantom has its own, i like to use magneto) and so on. when sequence in the fantom sometimes i want to change how an instrument drops out and comes back in, so rather than re-doing all this i use cubase for it.

Now I hope I made since!! :~D
