super annoying problem while recording songs - please help
I do a lot of recordings that incorporate both piano and strings/pads on the Fantom X-8. The problem is that any track with an instrument that has a long release time (such as strings and pads) seems to be affected by the pedal action from the piano track. So, I'll record piano, which sounds fine. Then I'll do strings, and it's choppy sounding and gets cut off as I try to transition between chords. It is very annoying, because I have no idea how to fix this and I feel it could just be a manufacturing flaw. If you have any ideas or solutions to this I would greatly appreciate it!

it seems to me you are reaching your max polyphony and notes are dropping out.
Edit your patches to use 1 element out of the 4 for your strings and do the same for your pads, this may help.
When I play Bass in the left and layer piano, electric piano and strings in the right i easily reach max polyphony 128. I changed the strings to use 1 element and i'm ok now. the sound is not as rich but it's a work around.
My next board for sure will have 256 polyphony minimum..

What's up man. What I do when I'm recording is always check your voices by holding shift and hitting voice monitor. If something is using too many voices turn down the release on that instrument and that will save your polyphony. Because if your instruments have a long release and your using a sustain pedal the voices keep building up. So this should tame the polyphony.

A quick fix I always use is to play less. So if you're banging out on one chord multiple times, that is going to use double the voices you just used while playing that same chord. So if you are a guy who likes to play the same chord on top of the same chord while holding the hold pedal, a good idea is to rerecord it just playing the chord and not playing it again while holding the hold pedal. Make sense?

I'm responding really late to this post, but isn't there a screen you can go to & see how much polypony you are using? If you're bumping 128 every now & then, then Kountryboi is right...... if not, then the OP may be right & should probably take it back to the shop to be checked out.

I'm not at the keyboard right now but I believe that holding the SHIFT button and pressing F4 takes you to the voice monitor.
Remember, when recording multiple tracks, polyphony can be conserved by re-sampling, as each stereo re-sample uses only 2 notes of polyphony!!! Of course this can greatly reduce the note-dropping issue!
Cheers!
