Hi,
While recording MIDI from my FanX to Garageband using Presonus Firestudio Mobile interface, I'm getting really low input signal. In Mac system preference, input level is 100% but still I'm getting around 20-25% signal level while recording a MIDI track. All sounds are ok though. While I have to hear it properly by cranking up the headphone vol or monitor output vol from my audio interface, but input signal for the track is so low that I don't even have much room to raise the level while mixing.
Checked my FanX System settings under MIDI, could not find anything. Is there any other place (any GBand preference setting?) to check?
BTW, the connection from interface to Mac is thru firewire but FanX connects with Mac directly via USB.
Thanks,
Fantom to Garageband MIDI volume is too low
Re: Fantom to Garageband MIDI volume is too low
MIDI doesn't have such a thing as volume, it's just control information. If you have Fantom-X as a USB MIDI controller for a software instrument track, you have to increase the level of that track.
Re: Fantom to Garageband MIDI volume is too low
yea, I understand that. I was just wondering whether in any setting on FanX, the velocity was set below 127 and so I was not getting the key-hits at 100%. But that was not the case. Also, compared with "audio" input level from FanX, the MIDI input level is quite lower. So, just thought whether there is any setting to fix it.Artemiy wrote:MIDI doesn't have such a thing as volume, it's just control information.
Ok, probably I will have to raise the track level while mixing in that case though, as you said. :-)
Thank you Art.
Re: Fantom to Garageband MIDI volume is too low
Do you mean the playback volume of MIDI from GB to the Fantom is low, compared to the audio volume going to GB through the PreSonus?
Re: Fantom to Garageband MIDI volume is too low
Andy,
I mean that the signal level of the track being recorded is quite low. The playback volume is also low but I can raise the main monitor /headphone vol on Presonus to hear a decent sound.
I read somewhere that by doing this (Open Track "i"nfo, click on the Edit Tab, and click the image under "Sound Generator" to display the windoid with the instrument's controls. Raise the Volume slider), I can raise the input level but haven't tried it. Will give it a try tonight. Do you have any other suggestion?
thanks

Yes, have tried out that the MIDI input signal level rises when tweaking the setting as in my previous post.
(Open Track "i"nfo, click on the Edit Tab, and click the image under "Sound Generator" to display the small window with the instrument's controls. Raise the Volume slider)
