Fantom Yase? and where are you guys getting all of your samp

Post by biggreen »

I would love to find a source of quality existing CD sample libraries that can be loaded easily intot the fantom (who wouldn't?) So I am trying to figure out my options. The Fantom Yase program looks good but it dones; t say what formats or libraries it works with?
Also, where can I find quality Sample sources. Searching for sample CDs on Ebay only produces mostly Hip Hop libraries and a bunch of Fantom X compilation libries consisting of all the Fantoms sounds sampled for other samplers (which seems kind of odd to me)

Questions for any kind/knowledgeable enough to help.

- Can someone with some experience with Vase give me some real world examples of sample sources that you have converted?

- Where can I find sound libraries that would be worth buying just to install on the fantom? Not 10,000 fruity loop techno samples like on Ebay but good quality acoustic multisamples. with velocity layers

- I understand that guys that have these CD's in big collections that they have collected over the years being willing to pay $200 for Vase, but what about guys like me with none looking to find sound libraries new? Do they even make these CD's anymore or are VST's killing the market?

- What formats are most popular and supported with Vase? I'm guessing the bigest one is Akai, but even Ebay seems to have only a smlall handfull of mostly electronic stuff. Wheres the strings, horns and pianos? Could I somehow use the Nord samples from there website for the stage EX for example?

I've got my 544mb sample ram and a 2 gig flash card and I just want to find some decent acoustic instrument samples like orchestral, base and pianos that will compete with teh SRX cards, like the excellent Rhodes sample set I downloaded from here.

If you're looking not just for acoustic instruments, but for new synthesizer sounds as well as stuff like vocals, make sure you check out these:

Ya, I already listened to every one of the planet pack demos but I'm not interested in any more synth sounds at all. The fantom has more than enough already for my taste I never really realized how much more popular synth /electronic sounds are than acoustic instrument samples when it comes to samplers.

I was in almost 8 studios in 11 years of music work as a sound engineer and composer/song writter, and in all those studios I've meet about 30-40 "babes" that now are "feeling"... aaah... filling my card and RAM in my Fantom-XR.
From Nordlead 2 Clavia, to some cheap but interesting "Made in China" FM Synth no-name children keyboard, from Kurzweil K2600 to JP8000 and AN1X.
Now I can wait to meet a friend with a new keyboard, to "borrow" the key for 1-2 days and "take it's heart out".
The biggest disappointment was Korg M3.
I had about 90% of the best sounds from Triton.
Only 3-4 sounds are new, like Popcorn Hit.

So, above all the "cd/patch" market is experience.
Try to sample all the sounds you like, or hear.
I have sampled a ex-electroacustic guitar (sold).
The "best work" is that cheap noname keyboard, that have strange and rare FM sounds.

I can appreciate the joy that must be making your own sample sets, however I don't have a vintage MKI, Cello, Ensemble brass or grand pianos around to try it with and I'm not interested in sampling old keyboards for theirs. I'm really just looking to augment the acoustic instrument selection in my fantom using the sample memory for varieties sake.

So I assume Yase converts Akai formatted CDs then, is there any other way to convert Akai CD's relatively easily for less money? There are a few Akai collections on Ebay for $10.00 I'd be willing to try but I don't want to drop[ $200+ to see.

I have read your question carefully and find that this is exactly the question I also wanted to ask.I also read the replies and probably, like you,I am no further enlightened.I should have guessed this would be a difficult task when I read...'If you're looking NOT just for acoustic instruments....'Good luck in finding what you are looking for,I too am serching....

Patchman has some really good acoustic sounds (mainly wind instruments), but they require a wind controller. This is the main reason I bought my XR. W need to emulate horn sections and sax parts for one of the bands I'm in. I'm starting with the Yamaha BC-3a with a Midi Solutions box and I'll add a Yamaha WX-5 or Akia EWI later. So if your willing to add a breath controller, the patchman sounds are really good.
