Fantom x8 is modulating for no reason. Please Help.

Post by jro »

I have a gig in two days. Walked into the practice room to rehearse tonight. Hit the first note and was completely out of pitch with the band. I play in live mode. I checked to see if I had transposed. Hadn't. Turned the x8 off. Unplugged everything. Put it all back together. SAME THING. Eventually it dropped back down a whole step into tune, then in the middle of a song it changed pitch again, but this time 2-1/2 steps up. Turned it off. Back on. ...Same thing. Out of pitch.

Personally, I would back up my data and do a factory reset if your gig is in a couple of days.

Does it do this on all Patches and Performances, or just on one? If only on one, have you changed any MFX settings that could be causing it?

Thanks for the replies. It does it as soon as the keyboard is turned on, even before it boots up all the way. The pads are fine, its only the keys. It does it all modes.

Thanks for the replies. It is only the keys that are doing it, not the pads. It is out of pitc as soon as I turn the keyboard on, even before it boots up all the way. It makes no difference which mode I play in.

Are you knocking the pitch bender while it's booting up? That can cause problems, I understand?

A shot in the dark - also check for an anomaly concerning your D-beam settings and pitch-bend, as it is heat sensitive.

You can play it before it is finished 'booting up'??

Yes.I always could play the keys before the entire x8 and all its functions are booted up. There is a default sound that the keys are set to which it turned on before full access to other things. The pads are the last to boot up.

How would I check for a d-beam or pitch bend anomoly? Keep in mind that I played last sunday and everything was fine. Haven't turned the x8 on until last night and it was out of pitch the moment I turned it on. I unplugged everything and powered back up several times.

What's your feeling that a factory reset will fix this and why? What do you think would cause this? I was thinking more of a hardware problem since its only the keyboard and it does it across any patch, performance, or mode.

A factory reset is a simple way to rule out anything software related that may have changed and/or gotten stuck. Create a user back up first so you dont loose anything. Do the factory reset and see if it still happens. If it's still happening then you most likely have a hardware issue of some sort.

If Factory reset does not work, check if your assignable knobs are loose. Happened to me. It changes parameters in live mode without touching the keys. When hitting the part view button and going through the different tabs i could actually see the numbers move. a temporary solution is turning them off temporarily by pressing the realtime knob select buttons.
